My friend always says I need to fix my rates but I don't know what that means, what they should be, or why. I could use help from smart people:)

Well, when your friend says to fix your rates, what is he/she referring to? You should ask your friend that first. You gotta ask the friend first to make sure you understand what they're even referring to in the first place.

My Guess: Framerates. Let us know if that's it, with a post of what are PC's spec(ifications)
Ex. CPU, Motherboard, RAM, PSU, GPU (Video Card), HDD, etc. etc...

What game are you trying to fix? Usually rate concerns your connection speed to a game. First try looking in the options menu and see if you can set connection speed from there. Usually you'll see options such as DSL, Cable, T1, T3 and so forth. If that doesn't work try opening the dev console (usually the ~ key) and depending on the game it's usually a command such as /rate 10000.

As Taylormade said if it's CS:S try typing into the console rate 25000 and see if that does the trick.

The game was never slow in the first place but I typed that stuff in so I guess I'll see if it does better
