Ok, so now that I have Windows 7 Pro 64-bit installed, it recognizes all 4gb of my memory (4x1gb ddr2 800), & im wanting to upgrade that by getting 2x2gb of the same bus speed memory. So far G.Skills 2x2gb memory on newegg seems to be the best deal at $100 w/ free shipping.

If you have any other suggestions, feel free to post here so i can check into it.

Why do you want to get 2 sticks of essentially the same thing?

Are you planning on opening up more slots for adding more sticks in the future?

Excellent point there Shadows. I would leave it as it is for now , 4 gigs is plenty for most unless you really need it. If gaming, more is not required. I still dont get why memory prices have been up so much since i built my system exactly a year ago.
6 gigs OCZ DDR3 for under $100 at the time.

Stick with what you have. I have 4GB too and I run Virtual Machines, itunes, CS:S/DoD:S/CS 1.6, plus with multiple chrome tabs opened and I hit bout 80% of my memory. Needless to say, 4GB is enough for me.

Oh and DBee, I was wondering the same thing a few months back. I built my comp a year ago as well and it cost me 1/3 less of what RAM is now. I know that DDR2 is still the most prevalent memory standard for today so the prices climbed. Wish I bought 8gb when they were cheap.

Transition from DDR2 to DDR3

The manufacturers are switching over, so they are trying to meet the demand of both markets. Currently the price of DDR3 is going down and DDR2 is going up because they are producing less and less DDR2.

Also i think that DDR3 yeilds are lower

Ya, gotta admit that I miss the days when ddr2 memory was cheaper. I remember getting 2x1gb sticks for around $60. Now when the day comes that ddr3 memory is cheaper, then ill look into it. Otherwise, ill stay w/ your suggestion guys & stay w/ 4gb.

Pretty much the same story as when DDR2 was getting more famous, therefore DDR prices sky rocketed.

Shadow and Reflex both hit the nail on the head. Smart thing to do, especially when running a PC store, buy a lot of the RAM cheap before Memory Manufacturers begin transitioning to, and putting into full production the next standard of memory.

6GB of DDR3 1333Mhz from Corsair was 100$ a year ago from now, around 200$ for the same set... I wouldn't necessarily say its going down quickly or at all...

ya ddr2 used to be dirt cheap i put in 2x2gb sticks when i built this computer and it olny cost me 60 dollars

memory went up in general

DDR2 is up because they are pretty much slowing down production of DDR2 and putting it all into DDR3 now so the whole supply and demand thing is the reason why DDR2 is fairly expensive.

I paid $100 for 6gb DDR3 1600 like half a year ago or more

anyways, yea you don't need to upgrade, it would be a waste of money.....4gb is enough for gaming and everyday use, you would need more only for like video editing and stuff
