Hey i wonder if anyone else encountered the same problem
I downloaded a game from steam (Napoleon totalwar) and i never got to launch it once it was installed. I get an error message: Napoleon has stopped working and will now close.
I tried contacting steam support, but everything they told me to do hasnt worked.. that is:

Hello Frank, Thank you for contacting Steam Support. Please exit Steam and go to the folder called C:\Program Files\Steam\ (this is the default location for a Steam installation - if you set a different installation directory, you will need to browse to it). Delete all of the files in this folder except: The \Steamapps\ folder and Steam.exe (this file is listed as an application and features the black and white Steam logo) Restart your computer. Then, launch Steam.exe from within the Steam installation folder, and not from a pre-existing shortcut. With Steam running, re-test the original issue. Note: This process will not affect your currently installed games. Additionally, please complete this process for your installed game(s): Title: Verifying Game Cache Files (GCF) Link: http://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335 Let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

if anyone has ideas about it i'd be grateful
thanks

download and install Ccleaner, www.piriform.com ...... run both parts of the program, restart and then try running the game

its more than likely a bad registry entry. Ccleaner will get most stuff fixed up for ya

as posted on a site:

Sega suggested contacting Steam for a refund, which I did. Steam tech support got involved and successfully solved the problem with the instructions listed below. The problem was that the Visual C++ runtime and the DirectX runtime update were apparently not installed with the Steam game installation. Here are the instructions Steam provided for the benefit of others:

Hello,

A staff member has replied to your question:

If you are running in Windows Vista or Windows 7, please completely exit Steam, and right-click on the shortcut which you use to launch Steam and select "Run as Administrator."

You may need to manually run secondary installers required by this game. Exit Steam entirely. Browse to your Napoleon: Total War installation folder (Usually C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\napoleon total war) You will need to run the following installers: ...\steamapps\common\napoleon total war\redist\directx\DXSETUP.EXE ...\steamapps\common\napoleon total war\redist\vcredist_x86-sp1.exe Then, restart your computer and test the issue again. Should you still have difficulty after this process, please contact the Sega support team from the following guide: Title: Napoleon: Total War Link: http://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=6116-ULZN-0266
