Hi everyone i always get low fps but my computer meets the recomend settings and when i go to can you run it says i should be able to run fine but i dont evern when all my graphics are turned down and im running directx 8.1

My specs are

Intel(R) Pentuim(R) 4 cpu 3.ghz dual core

Nvidia 9500gt

2GB DDR2 Ram

windows xp sp3

I am not able to upgrade for quite some time does anyone know what i can do to get a frame rate of 60 fps or higher?

I had a pentium 4 2.8Ghz system about 4 years ago. The system was unable to reach 60FPS in a full server in TF2. The processor just isn't powerful enough. Sorry.

you may try forceing it to run in a lower DirectX ---- in launch options for the game, type:

-dxlevel8

see if that helps some

Hey what would be some upgrades i could do to get it at 60 fps please if you can get them cheap?

I'm sure a gig more of RAM would help. Either that, or get a new CPU. Possibly a quad core.

If you're looking into processors, and want them cheap, but efficient, Get a AMD one. I have a AMD 9650 Quad core for this comp, and it can pretty much do anything I need it to.

TF2 has problems with giving consistently low FPS, on highest settings I get 30-40 FPS with a near identical setup, I have a slower processor and one extra gig ram though, oh, and I run on Vista, pretty much everything else is the same though.

My suggestions:
1)Change to Windows Vista x64 Home Premium or better
2) 2 or 3 more RAM Chips.
3) Get a new processor, if you can't get your hands on the high end ones that were released Q4 2009 or earlier this year then get a AMD Athlon x2 6000 + 3.0Ghz
4) Your Graphics Card is good but also try to find more better ones for cheap.

Might as well tell him to buy a new computer lol

Vista and win7 can run Directx10 where as xp cant. BUT IF you do plan to upgrade you OS, go for win7. Its better on resources.
I think your pretty good on RAM if you plan on just gaming.
Your GPU is OK for now

Verdict:
I think your CPU is holding you back, especially in a more CPU intensive game like TF2. What socket type is your motherboard? Run a CPUZ to determine your system specs.

Is your build pre-built , or you-built. If it was a home build , do some overclocking... CPU intensive yes, my i7 @ 4.2 was getting up to 70c . I would have guessed a dual @ 3 ghz would be ok. Otherwise add a couple gigs of RAM, and overclock if you can. Good Luck.
