new video card.

Tessellation. Big plus there. As long as the card is not overheating, whats the problem? And I think we are all making this a bit harder than it really should be for Blue. He has $700 to spend, either go with the 5970 as he decided on earlier , or a pair of 470's would be my choice.

Considering there's not a single game out now that will take advantage of tessellation... Why not wait until there is, and then the 470 will be cheaper too...

There's more to heat management than just making sure you don't overheat... What kind of climate control do you have in your house? How many fans are in your case? Is your RAM overlocked? Is your CPU overclocked? These are all factors in heat management. A video card is one of the hottest things in a computer case. Do some research and find out what happens when the ambient temperature inside your case goes up just 5 degrees.

Obviously it's Blue's money, but I just hate to sit back and watch someone waste hundreds of dollars...

My suggestion is to sell your 295, buy one HD5770 and save the rest. Then in 6-9 months buy the 470 or HD58XX.

Metro 2033 is pretty tessellation heavy, so are the nVidia tessellation demos...

on a side note, I traded my 9800GX2 for a 5770 just now.

Earlier on in this thread i had mentioned the Galaxy GTX 470 w/ a non reference cooler design. Microcenter has them in stock , at a hefty $429, thats after $40 savings. Newegg still isn't showing in stock.
