internet problem

Ok, my internet was working perfect yesterday but today it just says that I'm connected to my network but not the internet, then when I diagnose the problem it says that there's a dns error, I have windows vista and have no idea what to do please help

Are you wireless or wired?
Go into command prompt and type ipconfig /all and under the connection your on, what are the DNS servers?
Can you ping www.yahoo.com?

Try doing ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew

Whats the exact error your getting, a screenshot might help. Use imagebucket to upload if you don't have some kind of account.

Also try ipconfig /flushdns

When I click diagnose it comes up with this..... there may be a problem with your domain name derver configuration.... windows failed to find the well know host "www.microsoft.com" using dns. The server might be down

have you simply tried rebooting your PC? BIOS may have loaded your port connections badly. When in doubt, reboot.

i have this issue once in a while, you have to soft reset your router/ modem. Make sure anything connected to the router is off computers, xbox, printers, anything. OK then unplug the router and modem and let them sit off for about 30 seconds then plus the modem back on NOT THE ROUTER, wait until you get all the lights back on they all should be on except the ethernet and the usage flicker thing shud not be blinking. If that didnt happen and your have a red light its the modem otherwise go ahead and turn on the router give it a min to reassign dns ip etc. the ethernet light should be on and the usage light flickering green. Turn on your pc and everything should be fixed.

Just tried that any the internet light never goes back on... the power lights on, the lan ethernet, the lan coax, and the wireless light but not the internet one, I'm so frustrated

Call your ISP and ask to break and renew the connection to your house.

yea i finally called verizon and they had to reset everything, but now it works

I would have the same problem when trying to set up a new router in my house. Had to call 3x after installing 3 routers.
