I've been seeing way too many bounty threads lately and its really starting to clutter up the main division discussion page.
I admit I've done my fair share of adding to this massive amount of spam and I regret none of it because its pretty damn fun seeing the guy that completely humiliated you get completely humiliated also. xD

Now back to business, the way i see it there's two ways to stop this spam, either we kill crazyrockets (lol), or we embrace this new idea I've come up with.

Basically theres one giant bounty thread thats stickied up there in the division discussion, in that thread there is a list of current bounties going on including the person who started it, the type of bounty (multiple dominations or just one),the person you have to dominate, server and time that person usually plays on and a special rule or rules that can be anything you want it to be eg. kill him on a friday?

To make it so that a person doesn't have to go searching up this thread every day to see who's got an active bounty on them and who doesn't we use a system like this or similar;
If someone has a current bounty on their head, in their in-game-name they could put a '.' after their name eg. ( =(e)=? dy1an. `cBs ) to show that they have a bounty on them.


Tell me what you guys think about this idea and i'm sorry about this giant wall of text I've forced you all to read :P
 
You sir have won. I want a sticky for all these dominations to go into as one :d...

I only made my domination so it would defeat the whole purpose of having a new domination for each people in the community >.>
 
I would say this topic has probably already been discussed by leadership (;))
and really.. it's not exactly hurting anyone, and it brings attention to the division

If this continues the forum will just be clogged with bounties instead of "thoughtful" discussions >.>

I mean...just...look at the css division forums <3 it's so nice...being able to discuss different topics in each thread <3. Although I don't like giving out my thoughts, I like reading other people's opinion :D.

All I've seen in our forums for the past 2-3 days were "Bounty on Dreadmaker/Bounty on wernervoss/etc."

What are we supposed to discuss in these "topics"?

Especially when all of these bounties share the same idea and goals >.>

"HUR HUR HUR I'MA GET JOO?", "UUUH NO YOU CANTZ GETS ME I IS TOO GOOD LULUL", "HUR HUR HUR I GOT JOO! Money plox nao?!".....

^ I am not joking...seriously go look a these bounties, they consists like 80% of the time those responses -.-(except for mine cause mine doesn't need people to flex their e-status)

Am I saying we should stop the bounties? No. Just move these bounties away from where people try to discuss ideas/events/etc.


If this does not get addressed...I'm going to assume making hundreds of other bounties because "OOOPS LOL I FORGOT TO MAKE A BOUNTY FOR THIS GUY IN THIS THREAD..SO I'MA MAKE A NEW THREAD LOLOLOLOL" is ok from now on :)...

MY BOUNTIES WILL BLOCK OUT THE SUN

Don't you dare reply with "Then we will discuss in the shade >.>"

What about if there was a section in the forums that was just for eGO bounties? I don't know if that's been suggested before or not.
 
I like the idea of bounties being contained in one area, although not one thread. A subforum, I would say, would be the ideal solution.

Here's why:

What pie described is mostly true; a bounty involves a few things to be successful. First, it needs a subject. This is one of two different types of people: Either someone who's a really good TF2 player, or someone who is an infamous TF2 player (or both). Thus, there is a motivation on the part of the bounty-taker to bring down that person - they deserve it. Second, the subject of the bounty needs to talk smack about how 1337 they are. Third, they will eventually be dominated, and the community at large will guffaw at their expense.

If you put all of those three things into a thread, you have a bounty. However, it's notable that both the initial smack-talk and the ensuing guffaws can take up a good 20-50 posts by themselves. My own bounty thread currently has 56 posts, most of them smack from me, people giving me death threats, or people claiming the bounty and me being generally guffawed at.

Now, imagine all the bounties in the TF2 division. Let's simplify it and say there's only ten. If that's the case, we're dealing with 200-500 posts. If you put them all into one massive thread, the forums would explode. Dominion would throw fits, and as such, someone would put a bounty on him for being a whiner, and the problem would only grow. It's like recursion. It's like recursion.

My thought is that a subforum might be more appropriate; it could easily be modeled in the same exact style as the Dropbox; unresolved bounties in one area, and resolved bounties in the other. This way, there are plenty of spaces for smack, threats, AND guffaws. This could all be a subforum of TF2 divisional discussion.

Here's the issue though: Moderation. For my system to work, people actually have to move those threads. That person is likely going to be an adviser, and I don't think many advisers would like the prospect of doing that kind of moderation. Then they would whine, then they would get bounties, then complain about moderating their own bounty.

So, while it's an admirable thought to separate this stuff out... I doubt it's going to happen in an organized way anytime soon. Besides, if you did that, then our divisional discussion would just be spam youtube videos of tf2 characters doing things. Then people would want them moved into their own area. Then, TF2 division would be left to the crickets. and you don't want that, do you?
 
Im going to ask my admin friends to take a look, I love the idea so If there are to many bounties you can avoid them or if you cant find bounties, go to the thread, this is a GREAT idea and I'll ask some of my admin friends

As part of the problem, I will now become part of the solution...

How about we have a similar idea, but have a set of deeper folders. Regular division discussion can go in one, and bounties in another. When a person is just in the TF2 division discussion section, they can see both. If they wish only to see discussion, they can go to the discussion folder. If they wish to only see bounties (or search bounties) they can go to the bounties folder.

This, i think, is what dreadmaker was talking about (at least in part), but I think it goes a step beyond as the division discussion base page will be the same as now, but those (cough lame cough) persons that don't like bounties can just go straight into the division discussion sub-folder.

On the topic of the period next to your name when you have a bounty on you... I like it! Although I think we should do something better, like a target symbol. ☼ (alt code 15) for instance. Then it is very visible and easy to understand!


On another note, I would just put a bounty on myself to punish myself, but I really can't as there already are 2 out on me :P

Sounds like a great idea imo :).

Although there is probably valid reasoning behind the decision made pertaining to bounty threads (I'm not a logical type of person, as most of you know), it seems like there should be some sort of limitation. Sure, bounty threads are good; they get people interested in the AWESOME TF2 division, but there doesn't need to be a wall of threads strictly pertaining to bounty hunters (it is division discussion and not a bounty forum, after all.)


Merging all bounty threads that correspond to the same person into one thread, then having them update it when they place a new bounty, maybe?

I don't know; does it cost extra for sub forums or is it just a programmer thing?

I do not wish to be overly rude, but I "thoughtful" discussions rarely occur. Usually, someone posts a "funny" youtube video, or a funny picture. Occasionally people will try to start a discussion( for instance, the multiple attempts to start thoughtful discussion about the upcoming engie update), but it's gone in a day or two.

While it is a bit excessive the number or bounties out now, it is nowhere near as annoying as a "kiss me" video.

I firmly believe that a bounty board should be up, where someone can make the bounty define its details. I'm sure this is going to be one of those "put it in the drop box" suggestions, but I'll put it here anyway.

vBulletin has a flat rate per year. Once you "purchase" it you can do anything you want.


Also, sticky thread = no. Someone with editing powers (ie leadership) would have to keep it updated.
