But it in all seriousness, I agree that this is a fun discussion. Not that many people use it that are still in eGO (You'reInMyCrosshair is my fave M1 player to play with). I also have little experience with Crusader besides looking at the stats page. My vote had to go to Bill, based on the video alone, it's tough to argue from that list at least. Ravage actually is quite a respectable M1'er and deserves the shoutout. Brain is good in a pinch but meh, I honestly don't disagree with his comments that he might not deserve the vote in this post (no offense buddy <3 ).

Hm, it's a tough call because usually when I try to think about "who is good with X class", I mostly consider if I have to give that player extra attention when I play on the opposing team. IE: My team isn't doing an adequate job controlling that one person's sprees and I need to adjust my play style to position myself accordingly to offer up resistance. And honestly, that's what makes this discussion so intriguing; I very rarely find myself having to do that with an opposing M1 player, let alone an eGO M1 player. The only reason YIMC (former eGO) pops into mind is that exact reason; he will run and gun with the M1 and cause a stir on Ava unless he is pinned down.

/Shrug. It's a tough call. I also think that Blue Stealth deserves consideration (almost as lame as rp, yeah I know), and while usually his weapon of choice is sniper, he can definitely play M1 very competently. Good discussion YSD, I missed you while you were away, glad the new PC is up and running!

Also, I guess I never mentioned Sab. Do TF2 players deserve mention? Ha.

First off, just so you (and everybody else) know...I intentionally limited it to just eGO members for now. After we finish up debating the classes in-house (some of them are going to be fricken awesome to debate--like the snipers) I wanted to see where we thought the selections stood in comparison with all of the other players who frequent our servers. :) I figured we'd have enough to debate as it is alone.

However, good contribution to the argument. I have never, personally, played with/against YIMC, as is my problem with most of the guys mentioned.

You're very right with that second paragraph. For instance, any sniper or MG is really something that "needs to be dealt with", but you come across players with those weapons (or any weapon) that you know will require MORE effort. This might come in the form of assigning your team's best players to just focus on them, or perhaps the whole team changing strategy, maybe even in the response of completely avoiding them (if possible). Sadly, however, there really aren't those players that come to mind with the M1 (as you said).



I think that so far we've nearly all agreed on Bill Clinton-Crusader for 1-2, but I am very curious to see how we all round out the rest of the Top 5 (or maybe if somebody else is mentioned who shakes things up).

I vote bill without a doubt. Not much competition really.

Have not played with crusader but once, and all he did was camp so I cant vote for him.

Sabion loves to camp. Im not saying hes not good, but I cannot give out props to campers.

Cant vote for brain, garand is not his main class, and ravage is easy enough to kill in realism that I cant vote for him either.

OH, that's the other thing...please note that this is not weapon-specific, but rather class-specific. This will come in HUGE late on with things like Assault, Axis Rifleman, and especially the rocket classes.

So in this Allied Rifleman debate, we must factor in rifle nades, because they are a huge factor...so anybody know about the rifle nade prowess of these guys, or anybody else who plays Allied Rifleman?
 
how regular are these threads going to be? have to say im highly anticipating the arguments of axis sniper :P

I, too, cannot wait through all the anticipation, so I am going to do a class a day for what will end up being almost two weeks. I already have the order they are in, so Axis Sniper is coming in 9 days hahahahaha.

I was considering going two-a-day, but...I dunno. I wanted to make sure that people actually considered/debated each of them, and I figured that flooding the forums with these threads THAT MUCH would make people not wanna talk about them.

And I am gonna stick with just 5 for every class. That way people can get fired up about missing the list or argue about people who should have made it that didn't. :)

I would have loved to assign each person to one class (whatever they use most), but the simple fact of the matter is that that isn't how it works. A Kirk or Blue is just as likely to jump on with Axis or Allied sniper rifles and kick major butt (in most cases), so...yeah. And some guys like the infamous ronpaul are just plain legendary with multiple classes.

SO with that being said, let's not worry about if this is somebody's "not main" class. If rp or Brain or IO or whoever are one of the best Allied Riflemen, so be it.
 
i give Bill this :) have playing with him on kalt :P very awesome with the M1 garand :)

also gave me some tips how to shoot with it ;)

Was it better than the following advice I give people who wonder how I killed them and they didn't kill me:

"See that red plus sign on the middle of your monitor? Put that over me and THEN press your left mouse button. Repeat as needed."

Hey now, I dont camp with the garand, its too hard to. I camp only with a sniper rifle =P

You should play with me more often. I camp rarely, and if I remember correctly you wouldn't budge out of the 2nd story house on Flash... Nothing wrong with camping, knowing when to hold your ground and charge are two well known tactics. I think the only time I camp is when I am too bored to push. Think of it this way, why should I waste my precious time taking down two machine gunners and in the process enemy snipers to only get killed while my team picks dandelions by our second flag? As for this thread I kinda disapprove of it, I don't like being compared to other players because its all opinion based and biased. Bill Clinton is a fine player, and a heck of a garand user. I can use every weapon in DoD:S effectively, and thats what matters... I like the m1 alot, its the kinda weapon that no one uses because it "stinks". Any one who knows better can tear havoc on the other team, put 3 or more people who can use the garand with excellent sniper cover and nothing can stop them. With that said I think this thread pulls out some good points, but once again its biased and all opinion.

By most people's logic camping is for noobs and makes you a bad player, Ill be blunt that logic is dead wrong.

Hahaha that's the whole point of it, Crusader! I try to get people talking. Clearly it worked cause I never see you around and all of a sudden you crawled out from your "strategically and tactically-positioned" rock to comment on this. lol I also enjoy the ability of being able to harass everybody about camping because there is only one person I have ever seen who pushes more than I do. :)

I, for one, never cease to do the things that will help my team and that's really why I am not ranked higher than I am. Even if I just ran out into the street on Kalt to distract the Allies 10 times in a row and not once did anybody even come around the corner to attempt to cap the bridge, I am still going to run out into that street--into certain death and skipping out on the points the cap would give me--the eleventh time. So...if you're on Kalt with me...please just push a little more and don't make me feel like I'm doing everything I do in vain. :)

As far as this claim--"put 3 or more people who can use the garand with excellent sniper cover and nothing can stop them"--I would love, love, love to test that one. So in other words...if you were to make a team with you, Bill, and even take ronpaul at M1...with let's say Kirk at sniper, and then fill the rest of the team with a bunch of average players, then you think you'd win no matter what the other team looked like, huh? :)

If we worked as a team yea.. we would rip. Gaming goes to whole different level when people play together using tactics and skill. Thats why people play CAL or any other leagues. I know from firsthand experience, but on the other hand I rather enjoy coming on my favorite servers keeping it in calm mode. Thats my style of game play and for me thats what keeps me playing DoD:S.

Oh man, I'd LOVE to see this happen and how it turns out. It's essentially "All-Stars" versus "Core Four + Heinz 57".

And Crusader, bro, since you don't know me, I'm not saying "Oh you're full of it, you'd get destroyed", I'm really excited to see how this event would turn out. It's be interesting to test the same with the elite trios of each other group (Allies Support and Assault, and all three of the Axis variety) to see if it's really some sort of "The Garand is actually really good" thing or what.

Well I know you weren't calling anybody out, I was merely asking if I couldn't do a little of both. Never underestimate the value of a good spawn camping. (Strand only)



But back on to the skill topic of this thread. I have to say Bill is one of the most talented Rifleman I've ever played with, but most everybody on that list is a skilled marksman.
