Try xubuntu 10.04. I think you might find better results because it would contain more drivers than the netbook remix.

I got it to work -_- I had to fiddle with the outbound settings. But I have a nasty hiss coming out. Bleh. I might end up going to the xubuntu. But I'll be testing out this and seeing if I want to stick with it or not. Linux is a learning experience! WOW XD

give openSuSE a go it's extremely stable and easy to use and as a power user i find i can do way more with it or pure redhat or debian than i can with ubuntu.

isnt opensuse and debian not to sure about redhat based off ubuntu? the only linux distro i know that is not based off ubuntu is fedora. it was made from scratch. not a edited ubuntu

Security:
AppArmor. Enough said. (AppArmor is the openSUSE / Novell version of SELinux). Ubuntu has nothing on top of the Linux OS for further security.
Advantage:
openSUSE (Long shot)

Stability:
They are both Linux OS’s, they are both sound mature products, they are both extremly stable. You can’t knock either in this category.
Advantage:
Tie

The community:
Ubuntu currently has the biggest following of users and has the best structured “free support” using forums and wiki. However many distributions including openSUSE have seen this format and are fixing their way of doing things. openSUSE has recently launched forums.opensuse.org, and they have a pretty comprehensive wiki and a very informational mailing list. I think it may be a while before the SUSE forums gets the content that the Ubuntu one has, but it’ll be a great day when it does.
Advantage:
Ubuntu

Conclusion:
Ubuntu and openSUSE are both very mature and solid Desktop Operating systems. However, I give the overall advantage to openSUSE because it’s continued attention to detail and rapid development. I believe the ONLY shortfall that openSUSE has against Ubuntu is the very small gap in the Package Management spot. Once this void is closed, the rest will follow feat. OpenSUSE is more polished, more refined and gives you the choices you deserve during installation. from the site with the review
read and youll see that opensuse has just some little more security and ubuntu a bigger community. I think ego did its best because now its a witch distro is best war not what you need to do to fix it.Go on the ubuntu forums where some real experts might help you out more than us.

Go on the official ubuntu forums for help your getting nowhere here its just a best distro war. Some real linux tech might solve your problem in a few minutes but i sence that ego members did there best,

your facts are messed up

ubuntu is based off of debian

linuxmint is based off ubuntu

fedora is based off red hat

openSuSE it not based off either but uses the red hat packages for it's packages

and there is also Suse linux enterprise which is based off openSuSE

and personally i dont find the ubuntu community to be as helpful i find the openSuSE community even know it's smaller it seems to have more experts at certain aspects of linux and i can find answerers to more complicated issue or things i want to do, but they tend to assume you know how your OS works unlike the ubuntu community where as a power user i dont find the overly helpful but for a new user the tend to explain things in more plain english.

but this is not point in starting a war over this i just want people to try a few distros and get the one that suits there skillset and what the want to do the best.

just one thing new users to any distro should know it is very stable but you have access to every part of the OS so it is easy to cause issues, so if it asks for a root PW and you dont know what your doing stop and figure it out first
