Week 13 update

Allies Division

We're into the very last week of our regular season. For some, it's crunch time, whereas for others, it's too late and just time to look forward to next season.

Status quo
Not a whole lot has changed in terms of league standings, since my last update in Week 8. In fact, the only change in the Allies division is that Efren and YoSpankDawg have flip-flopped positions, and the same for Mr.Wizard and DrComptonites in the Axis division.

Playoff picture
5 of the 6 spots have already been sewn up by Kiwi, YoSpankDawg, Efren, Skippy, and Stem Van de Daken. Below are the candidates for the final open spot. Interestingly enough, even the current last-placed team in the Allies division has a shot to make the playoffs, possibly validating Kiwi's oft-stated theory that the Axis division 'is a joke' consisting of 'cupcake' teams.

6. Fluxion (Axis, 6-6, streak: L2)
A win against (IO) SA this week guarantees him the final playoff spot. However, he will have to be firing on all cylinders to overcome his 2-game losing streak, and also a red-hot (IO) SA team that against all odds, somehow managed to trip up Skippy's (former) #1 juggernaut team last week. Fluxion's (also known as the team that drafted Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady with their first 2 picks) future is in his own hands.

Only should Fluxion lose, the door opens for each of the following teams, should they register a win this week:
7. BaCkStAb! (Allies, 5-7, streak: L3)
8. Wewo (Allies, 5-7, streak: W2)
9. lungbuster4417 (Allies, 5-7, streak: L3)
In an interesting twist of fate, each of these teams faces an Allied team that has already made it to the playoffs. Perhaps one or more of them will thus get lucky and face a relaxed opponent? Knowing how cold-blooded and ruthless Kiwi, Efren, and YoSpankDawg are though, I highly doubt they'll be showing anyone any mercy. BaCkStAb! and Wewo have the clear advantage here, especially with their respective 100 and 50-points scored advantages over Fluxion, should it come down to that tie-breaker. While still mathematically in the running, lungbuster4417 would need losses from all of the other playoff contenders, and would also need to outscore Flux in this week's game by more than 60 points. If I were a betting puppy I wouldn't put my money on him, but it's not entirely beyond the realm of possibility that he makes it.

Battle for Playoffs round 1 bye
The top team from the Allies and Axis divisions enjoy the benefit of a free ride in round 1 of the playoffs.

Kiwi is pretty much guaranteed one of these spots, being 1 game clear in his division and having a massive 170-pt lead over the next best team (YoSpankDawg).

On the other end, it'll be either Skippy or Stem Van de Daken taking the Axis divisional title. Both sit at 8-4, but Skippy has a slight edge on the points scored tie-breaker.

Match-up of the week (Week 13)
There really isn't one this week, as every single matchup has potential implications on deciding either the final playoff teams, as well as the playoff round 1 bye teams.

*cough* I know as a coach this season, I let down the fans of the Dr.Comptonites, but you know, its something we have to build on. Next season, at the draft we plan to hopefully get a better spot and not have it messed up; and we can build the team from there. Im not blaming the players, they did the best they could, but we had some early injuries that set us back, and some key players who never reached the potential I thought they had for this season.
The owner and I talked it over and I plan to run practice a little more, and hopefully we'll be Coach Skippy or Coach Kiwi.

Is it bad that as soon as I saw playoffs as a nearly-sure thing I stopped even subbing out hurt guys so I could effortlessly (literally) just coast into the playoffs?
 
When I lost my 6th straight game, I figured the pictures were far off. Im planning for next year.
 
Id be interested if you did fantasy foosball...or maybe fantasy womans softball..when that time comes im in..

Great job, Flux! Unfortunately even if you beat Stem this week, you're going down in Week 15 (and if that happens, NO Kiwi, I won't go down in Week 16 to you).

Couple of interesting observations:
1) Playoff brackets
The top half of the draw contains only Axis teams (Kiwi, Efren, YSD) ...the bottom half of the draw contains only Allied teams (Skippy, Fluxion, Stem).

2) First tie in week 13
What are the odds? Especially since we use decimal scoring.
