Can get on the internet but cannot connect to any games online.

The title says it all. I cannot connect to steam, it says that it may be my internet connection or the steam network may be down. I spent a few hours trying to figure it out with the help of a friend but to no avail. I can play the original starcraft on battle.net fine but i cannot play CoD WaW which i have bought previously and not on steam. It seems that most of my games are not playable, and steam has me completely locked out. However, on my laptop i can log into my account just fine, its just my desktop. I can use skype, vent, and the internet just fine, but steam has not opened in 2 days now.

Please help!!! SOS!!! Any and all time given to helping me solve this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Maybe it's your firewall or Anti virus, or you can check this out it may help

Thanks monty. I tried all that stuff. I guess I should have listed what i did and did not do, but it was alot and I really dont remember everything. My friend thinks its my router too but Im not too tech savvy when it comes to stuff like that. I restarted it a few times with the little button in the back, nothing. If someone really has a solution to this I would probably need to talk to you in a combination of ventirlo and steam; my mic is dead, waiting on a new one, should have it in 5-8 days.

You can connect to STEAM on your laptop, but not your desktop.

Is your desktop WLAN or hardwired?

I tried to contact you on Vent, but to no avail.

Hmm it COULD be your router but I'm not sure. Maybe you have to open some ports on your NAT. :\

That was my first thought, but the fact he can connect with his laptop confuses me...
It looks more like an issue with the desktop. My best bet would be a software-firewall preventing the connections.
Either the windows built-in one, or a standalone program...

Well, since he worked over the steam-forum in the link posted above and that didn't resolve it, that shouldn't be the problem either.

Could you run a trace route to any gameserver not reachable?
On windows commandline type

tracert IP_OF_SERVER

Do it on both the laptop and the desktop and compare.
This might give a hint on where to look for the problem.

thanks guys. Im not that tech savvy cruel and killzjoy. i really am not sure what your talking about. im getting a new mic and having someone come over and look at it hands on because im still down. Hopefully ill be back shortly.
