Build "almost" done. question

For a few years now I have been collecting parts for a build, I realized I better finish it before everything is totally outdated.

Here is what I have so far:

Case: Antec Nine Hundred
Mobo: EVGA nForce 680i LT SLI
CPU: Intel ????
CPUCOOLER: dunno yet
GPU: BFG 9800 GX2
RAM: CORSAIR Dominator ddr2 2GB
HDD: seagate something or other
O/S: Vista ultimate
PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W

Is there really any reason why I would need to spend over a 100 bucks on a cpu?

Reason to spend over $100: more performance?

I'm not sure your total budget, but I would look into either a E8400, or a Q6600/6700.

You can find them pretty cheap used on eBay. (~$100 for either)

(I don't think that your board supports 45nm quads, so the Q9550 is out of the question)

If you don't like ebay, then in this order i would:

E7500
E6600
E5300

Those are the only processors on newegg right now that really make any sense for you.

If I'm wrong, and your board does support 45nm quads, then the Q8400 is actually priced ok.

Matt, that is a sweet deal. I think Im gonna byte the bullet and drive over to Fry's.. they are blowin out a few cpu's and think i will just pick one up there.

haven't had a new system in a while now, this is kinda exciting!
