I lost internet for 5 months, it might have been the most agonizing 5 months of my life, which is sad but true.

What'd I do with my spare time? Well at that time, I was getting ready for my senior year of high school so I just spent time with friends damn near every day, plus moved most my time to console gaming.

Got internet back ~September and went all the way through to December and lost it AGAIN for another 5 months. Wasn't so bad second time around, albeit it was during school so I had a time filler, but the fact of the matter is I've made some fantastic friends all over the world due to the internet. Not talking to them pretty much sucked

Plus the game in my sig requires stupid amounts of time >.>

But I'm glad you can do other things, it's refreshing to take a break and step back. I hope you come back soon Dread. If you contribute to the community as much as you say, then you're a loss to everyone :)

...but after crashing at entirely random intervals for the last few days, it finally has gotten to the point where it simply will not get as far as letting me log into windows before it crashes back to the motherboard splashscreen at the beginning...

I had the same thing ,I think, that is happing with your computer. Try playing with the ram by just trying one stick at a time, my 1gb stick was dead, now all I have left is the 2gb.
When that was happening, I just biked with my friends and thought of the solution when I was on my bike. lol

But my 3 1/2 year old hard drive is starting to click a lot... :scared:

All of these stories have certainly been interesting to read.

To Foe: Good luck. I want to hear how it goes when you get back.

Frisky: I disagree. I'm not calling the net or tf2 sour in any way; I've simply lost a taste for them at the moment. I've got other things I've been doing, and I've found it to be relatively fulfilling. After a day of freaking out, I most certainly didn't become in any way hostile towards the subject, like the fox, but I merely suggested that I don't need it nearly as much as I thought I did. When I get fixed and running, will I play tf2? I certainly will. Will I play it as often? likely not.

Eyeless: I fully agree, but I also think that after spending a good chunk of my life on the net in some form or another, I have to assert that the reverse is true also. I now have a social network that reaches across the globe. I have friends in the UK, Germany, Spain, Canada, and all across the States. And those are people I can name. If I were to extend my social network to people that are simply in eGO, but that I don't know well (since we are a single community), my social network would be even wider.

I've asked questions in these forums of the people in other parts of the world that I wouldn't otherwise have been able to ask. Being involved with the net is an incredibly educative experience, not only for the vast amounts of information on it, but also for the social knowledge.

I get that you were trying to be funny, eye, but realistically, I could write a paper on the subject of internet/real life dichotomy in a heartbeat. I think it's a link that few people of a certain age understand. Honestly, it's a link that I'm not sure people in general, even those participating within it understand.

God, you make me want to write that paper now :p

thanks again for the support and responses :)

A year + 2 months...before I realized I can tether...for a $600 dollars a month.

My internet/computer was taken away from me due to my school ditching :P.

I had to use my BB to do school-related research/email >.<

Hey, you tried; that's all that matter :)

Progress report: I can now boot windows. why? cause I had a TB hardrive kicking around (from a gift a while ago) and so I just did a clean windows install. I'll be a while before I'm totally back on my feet, but it seems it was a software problem.

Well, yes and no. Because it was a software issue, and likely vista, I think I'll be upgrading to windows 7 imminently. And, while I am indeed up and running and fairly stable, I'm going to save myself a good chunk of pain and not bother installing anything at the moment (or anything big, anyhow). I'm going to basically format the drive when I upgrade anyhow, so there isn't much point. I'm just going to wait some more; like I said at the beginning of the post: I don't mind it in the least.

Windows 7 is much better i have it on my laptop which is now my main pc my desktop has vista =/
