Had the thread in the TF2 forum and others seem to notice changes also, but does anyone know for sure?

http://edgegamers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=135341

Basically wondering if the CL_UPDATERATE and CL_CMDRATE on EGO TF2 servers recently got minimums put in. For people with lower FPS this can cause choke which causes lag, hit to not register etc.

Thanks.

Hello, sorry to bump but can no admins pipe in if it's new or not?? Or like to know why it's even there as it kills the server for folks with lower FPS.

Thanks

I'm not sure what these are for,
but the TF2 eGO servers have kind of gone to %&$* ping-wise for me lately.
I used to get 40-60 ping in the servers on my crappy connection, but lately the best I can get is 130. Nothing has changed with my network, either. :/

To explain a bit :)
A "tick" is a snapshot of what happened in the server at that particular moment. The tickrate is the amount of ticks that happen in a second. Your cl_updaterate is how many ticks you send to the server, and your cl_cmdrate is the maximum amount of the ticks the server can send back. I hear cmdrate should be set to what ever your avg fps should be, or lower depending on how bad your connection is :) This means, if you have vsync on and your refresh rate is at 60Hz your cmdrate should be 60 if indeed you are getting 60fps :)
I'm not sue if I'm correct about this, but I think our servers also lock both updaterate and cmdrate. I believe our servers are 66 tick so you can't go above 66 on either setting. At least that's I think that's how it all works.

But sadly I can not answer your question tf2oldguy :( I haven't been in the TF2 servers in a week or two. I might have answered your question up above somewhere with our server locking it to 66? But hopefully we can get someone into this thread that would know for sure!

Thanks for the explanation. I learned something today. I am become smrt!

Yeah Celtic has it on the explanation, unfortunately not on why the new minimums ;)

Tick maxes makes sense as it limits the amount of load the server takes. If you let folks use higher numbers it might start stressing the server and effecting everyones gameplay.

Server mins I don't understand at all. Valve said themselves the defaults were set (around 20) to be the best for everyone in general (meaning including the lower FPS guys). If you had a better PC and knowledge you could tweak it higher. EGO putting the mins to 33 though is overriding Valves choices and hurting the lower FPS guys for no server benefit I can think of :(

Hm... I wonder, did the eGO servers ever change? Like the good servers are now being used for a different game (Bad Company 2, perhaps?) and that's why every TF2 server has increased ping?
