TF2-Low FPS while playing on Mac

Hey guys! I recently just bought myself a new MacBook Pro with these specs:

Two Banks of memory both 2GB
NVidia GeForce GT 330M Graphics Card
2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
Mac OS X Verison 10.6.4

However, when I try to play a game like TF2 or CS:S, the games run slower then how my PC ran them. I only get around 20-40 FPS when playing. I'm not sure exactly what to do from here, so I'm hoping that I can get some help. Thank you in advance :)
 
Hmmm, your Graphics Card and the 2.66 GHz are really good, so I'm not sure why you're fps is low.

I think that You will have go to into the TF2 settings, There should be a way to run them on a performance mode. If You have spyware Then Disable it while playing the game. I am sure that You will play game very well after do this thing. Good LUCK DUDE.
 
Half the reason is because your on a Mac. Although TF2 can play on a mac, it needs a few more updates to get as good of FPS then a PC.
 
It's a laptop. The majority of windows laptops can't even get tf2 started..


Like it was said above, give them some time to iron out the kinks, it'll improve
 
Try disabling anti-aliasing and disabling MSAA. Also try disabling color correction as well. You may get some more fps out of that.
 
Simple reason is the Mac port is pretty awful performance wise. I get less than half the FPS playing on Snow Leopard vs Windows 7 on the same machine. Perhaps updates will improve this, but for now you either have to deal with it or dual boot Windows with Boot Camp.
 
Yeah, perhaps that since TF2 just came out for Mac about a week or so ago, the FPS and overall game might be slow. I was looking at the steam forums for mac, and it seems like a lot of people are having the same problem as me. I'm hoping that the updates will possibly fix this.

There was a also a steam message on the 18th about how Mac users shouldn't run high performance games, as most video cards won't properly work. I'm thinking that might have something to do with it too, but I can't be sure.

I can run the new CS:S fine, so I guess I'll just play that while I wait for some kind of answer from Valve.
 
I'm not sure if you saw the Steam announcement, but a recent update for Mac isn't working too well with Nvidia cards, so until there is another patch on either end, you'll have to bear with it.

One thing that is going to cripple TF2 on a Mac (or any other Steam game, for that matter) is that Steam does not truly run native on a Mac. It uses a shell to open, which results in Steam itself taking a good bit of your processor to run.

But truthfully, running TF2 on any laptop isn't that great of an idea. My Macbook Pro (1st generation, right near when the 2nd gens were realeased) overheats like CRAZY. Even without a power hungry processor or GPU it still builds up a ton of heat. And Apple hasn't done much to address their lovely heatsink issues (plus they glob 3 oz of thermal paste on each contact point). Even my old Alienware (which was trash, btw) would get nice and toasty when playing TF2. So unless you bought the 3 year warranty plan, you may want to hold off on playing games or you may just fry something in your laptop.
