i need a laptop for college soon, and since im going to film school, it needs to be small enough for me to easily carry it around, large enough memory for saving footage and information, and a good enough screen so that i can watch videos and edit them flawlessly, a long battery life and an ok webcam.
I'm looking at bestbuy, circuit city, newegg, alienware, and so on.
and i was hoping that i could get some point of views from you guys to help me out.

it would prolly have to be a macbook pro since most places use finalcut pro for editing and apple colour for colour correction and both are made by apple and only run on macs.

but you should figure out what software there useing first.

yeah id go with passerby on this one.

i don't prefer Mac's but that's what a lot of industry uses and they usually come pretty powerful but at a price. They will do everything you'll need it to do just as good as any pc. I do have to say their screens are really impressive. I wish i could get my hands on a monitor from them for cheap!
as for extra storage, i would consider getting and external hard drive that you can use to store all your old footage on after your done with it. My room mate does this with his photography he does.
youll probably want to spend the money on a laptop with a fast processor or if possible a quad core processor and at least 4GB of RAM.

Thats exactly what I do with my computer (below), I use it for college work as well as video and web editing. Its nice and does everything you need, including having about a (realistically) 4 hour battery.

kinda for an external harddrive it's best to get a good 10,000 rpm drive that uses firewire800 for video or audio and just work with it right on the external, makes things a bit less cumbersome when you dont need to copy file back and forward all the time, but a usb drive is pretty much useless for this kinda use.

i really really really dont like macs, but if its the best thing i can buy for school, ill work extra hours when i get a job and spend it on that.

im not really saying it's the best thing it is just that there is a very good chance you will need to use final cut pro and apple color at some point since they are almost industry standards and only run on macs

Well you need a laptop with a ton of ram and a decent cpu for video editing. Whats your price?
