Hi,

My friend I think got a virus on my computer and I dont know what to do.
I got home and my computer was being really slow.
I am on my laptop right now.

He told me he went to some site then after that the computer started acting slow.
I tried a system restore that didnt help.
It wont even really start up now.

I think it might be a virus but idk.
What should I do?
Should I reinstall windows 7?

Thanks.

well, for one did you scan your pc? i recommend either AVG or Camodo. as far as the system restore try restoring to a restore point about a month ago, better bet doing that.

It seems to be running alright now. I am gonna run a virus scan. Is avast any good?

Avast! is an excellent choice. It's free, and one of the "Big Three" programs I'd recommend for PC safety.
You may also want to pick up a spyware scanner such as Spybot: Search & Destroy; computer slowdowns aren't always caused by a virus, and sometimes spyware and other trash files are the culprit.
Someone else (Infamous, I think?) had a thread that recommended a little utility known as CCleaner that can help you sweep junk off your HDD and registry.

A couple more notes:
Dust your PC if you haven't. I do it with a can of air every 1-2 weeks and believe it or not, dusting out just the outside of the case can help a lot, and you'll see even more benefits from dusting out the inside too.
Finally, if your PC is a month or older (or sometimes sooner than that) you may want to look into defragmentation if you haven't done that recently. It really can make a difference.

I posted download links to each recommended program above, as you can see! :>

Thank you man.
I am thinking about getting a new case soon. My case is falling appart and I will be sure to dust everything off and such.

I do use CCLeaner and just cleaned up all the junk.

I will be sure to check out a SpyBot.

Thanks a lot!

Good suggestions, I would of suggested the exact same.
Except I would also say get Malwarebytes. Can't be too safe. At least when it comes your computer. ;)

Also, make sure you run the scans in Safe Mode without Networking. I believe you hit F8 at boot.

superantispyware is also useful

also, run windows defender, in rare cases it will pick up files that other third-party programs wont.

Ad-aware by Lavasoft is also a nice program for the trojans and spyware.

Also, smack your friend.

combofix is the near be all, end all of spyware crushing, especially combined with Malwarebytes.

Eh i don't like avast as it comes up with many false positives.

My pick (which i am not saying is right but it works wonders for me) is combofix, vundofix, ad-aware, spybot search and destroy, and MBAM.

Only use combo fix if directed to do so by a professional in it's workings. Trust me on that, it is the best, but it can seriously mess things up if you mess around with it without knowing what you are doing.
