This is a modification/change to the current DoD:S Realism event with the approval of DoD:S Leadership and the rest of eGO Leadership to whom it applies to.

Brief Overview:

This event/tournament will be run in campaigns (4 week durations). In the campaign, each army will be fighting for specific territories where a specific map is assigned. As they battle for the territory, they will win bidding points. Certain territories will require more bidding points for an army to attack. At the completion of the 4 week campaign, the army with the most territories will win the campaign.

Tournament Administrators (in alphabetical order):

Tournament Specifics:

This will be a structured/organized tournament.

As such, each army will have a structured ranking system, starting from Cinc (Commander in Chief) to Pvt. (Private). In cooperation with eGO rules, players participating will have their names as such: =(eGO)=™ Player [Cinc] or =(eGO)=™ Player [Pvt.] {Please see Army Structure Section for Complete Rankings.}

Cinc’s and CO’s will be chosen. The Cinc’s will choose their Generals. Generals will choose their CO’s with approval of their respective Cincs. The slots for CO’s will be limited and a restriction will be put in place as if you have served as a CO or up in a campaign, you may not serve again as a CO until another campaign passes unless its a higher position.

Cincs for both sides will be given a certain amount of bidding points and these points will be used to bid to attack a certain territory. The side that bids the most points will be attacking that territory. For example, if the allied Cinc bids 5 points to attack Germany and the axis Cinc bids only 3, the Allied Army will be attacking for the control of Germany.

Upon registration, a player will be assigned an army (Axis or Allies) upon which they will be serving for the duration of the campaign.

At the end of the campaign (4 weeks), whichever side has the most territories, wins. A 2 week duration will be given in between campaigns for a new registration process to begin. This will allow ample time (1 week) for previous Cincs will select new Cincs and in return they will select their Generals. The new Generals will be given the task of selecting his/her new CO’s. The next week will be devoted for registration and team selection.

Every battle will last exactly one hour, and the army that has the most points (not caps) will win that round. The winner will get a certain amount of bid points for that territory and will again choose another territory to attack. Cincs cannot choose to attack the same sector twice in a row. For example, Italy would have one map designated for when Allies attack it that is Axis biased while if Axis were attacking, would be designated a different map that was Allied biased.

Axis Stronghold will be designated as Germany. If the allies overrun the Axis stronghold, campaign is over, even if the 4 week deadline is not met.

** For the Allies to attack Germany, the must be in possession of atleast 8 territories!

Schedule:

  • Every Saturday 9pm EST
  • Euro Event: Every Other Saturday 3pm EST

Queuing:

** VENTRILO IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Once the server is full, there will be a queue in Ventrilo. A First come, First serve system will be initiated to enter the server per team at the discretion of the specific side's Cinc.

Each team will get a total of 75 points to distribute among it's own territories. These points will be used as both defensive and offensive points in a (RISK) style play. Each side will use the points to select certain territories to attack.

A full detailed explanation is available for the Cincs and Generals in order for them to bid their points accordingly. For any questions on this, please direct them to a PM to C-WHiT.

I'm digging the idea, but I have many questions which I will ask alongside my criticisms and scrutiny. :)
1. How will players be assigned, and who will assign them?

2. This seems a bit counter-intuitive. There is great incentive to draft more unskilled players for more attack points, but at the time of the battle these players won't do you much good versus skilled opposition. Is there no way to achieve parity with attack points?

3. Please explain further what happens after a victory. If the attacker wins, they may attack again? What if the defender wins, do they then have a free counter-attack?

4. If the more unskilled team is the Allies, they could theoretically bid all of their attack points to attack Germany in the first week. Maybe you consider this a strategic facet of the system, but is it realistic to be able to invade Germany and win in the very first attack? On that note, could you further explain defense points?

5. Per each week, each team bids attack points and the higher bid achieves initiative and goes on the attack, correct? How do defense points factor in? Won't the Axis be at an inherent disadvantage being that Germany will always need high defense points because it is so easily accessible by Allied Armies? Does the attacker's bid have to be higher than the defense point value in order to attack that territory?

6. Will we be introducing custom/3rd party maps to expand the campaign variety? Also, who makes the determination which two maps will be used for each territory insofar as which is easier to defend for a certain side, etc.? If a determination cannot be made, are there any handicaps you'll impose on teams to achieve the defense/attack advantage you're after here e.g. additional reinforcements, a per round point-modifier, etc.?

8. Why is there no Allied stronghold? It seems Great Britain would more than qualify and it's only fair that each side have a day-1 vulnerable territory that will need more defense points.

9. It seems this is following the traditional military structure in terms of Corps, Armies, Divisions, Regiments, Brigades, down to the squad level, does that mean that as a SGT I will be able to choose the PVTs and Corporals from the remaining pool of players who haven't been assigned a rank? E.G. rank assignments flow all the way down, and autonomy of choice is given to organizational leaders?

10. What rank limitations will be imposed on tournament administrators, for quality control purposes? Not that we don't trust you, but if cincs are placing silent bids and submitting them to tournament admins, who are themselves, well, that's not a very trustworthy or reliable process.1

11. How many battles will take place per night? How much downtime do you expect in between a battle given that new points and new bids must be allocated and made? Have you developed any technological tools to shorten the downtime and make the overall process more efficient and accurate?

12. Will Euro Realism have their own campaign or will theirs be rolled into stateside campaigns somehow?

1. How will players be assigned, and who will assign them?

Right now, we will follow the mantra that regular realism follows where teams will be assigned. To answer the second part of the question, again, following the mantra of what realism has already established, the Cincs in conjunction with the Tournament Administrators will take on the task of doing this.

2. This seems a bit counter-intuitive. There is great incentive to draft more unskilled players for more attack points, but at the time of the battle these players won't do you much good versus skilled opposition. Is there no way to achieve parity with attack points?

This is something I will bring up and get back to you about. As with everything, we are looking for the "fairest" and most reasonable method.

3. Please explain further what happens after a victory. If the attacker wins, they may attack again? What if the defender wins, do they then have a free counter-attack?

When the attacker wins, they will win over that territory and the bid points associated with it. If the defender wins, they will win the bid points. Each week, we will meet with the Cincs of both armies to determine who attacks/defends and what territories will be involved.

4. If the more unskilled team is the Allies, they could theoretically bid all of their attack points to attack Germany in the first week. Maybe you consider this a strategic facet of the system, but is it realistic to be able to invade Germany and win in the very first attack? On that note, could you further explain defense points?

The simple answer to this is NO. The allies will start at a specific point and will have to work their way in. So, it will be logistically impossible for the allies to win in the first week.

Defense points = Think of it like a game of risk. Each side will have a certain amount of defense points allotted to them. They will scatter X amount of points onto their designated territories they wish to defend. When the other side decides to attack, they need to exceed that amount in order to attack.

Most of this was already answered above. Will the axis be at a disadvantage? The answer is quite simply no. To battle the "easily accessible" part, most territories will have 2 maps assigned to it. One map biased towards the allies and one map biased towards the axis. Thus, when the axis are defending a territory, they will be playing on a map biased in their favor. How does this factor in? This means that the allies will have to work much harder to gain the points needed to attack Germany.

To answer your first question, Yes, custom maps are used. Second question, for right now, the Tournament Administrators and the Cincs/Generals will pick maps for their own territories. As for your third question, it is something that is being looked into.

8. Why is there no Allied stronghold? It seems Great Britain would more than qualify and it's only fair that each side have a day-1 vulnerable territory that will need more defense points.

Yes, Great Britain is the Allied Stronghold. Sorry, I neglected to mention it in the post. :scared:

I may not be understanding your question perfectly.

Any and all promotions, ranks, and the sort, will be left at the discretion of the Cinc and the General. They will decide on who can get field promo'd.

10. What rank limitations will be imposed on tournament administrators, for quality control purposes? Not that we don't trust you, but if cincs are placing silent bids and submitting them to tournament admins, who are themselves, well, that's not a very trustworthy or reliable process.

Well, this has been brought up numerous times. To be honest, I do understand your standpoint and understand that this is something that many people may share. However, as this is the first campaign, and the first time eGO is running this, we have elected to have no imposed limitations (atleast for the first campaign).

11. How many battles will take place per night? How much downtime do you expect in between a battle given that new points and new bids must be allocated and made? Have you developed any technological tools to shorten the downtime and make the overall process more efficient and accurate?

For right now, it is set at 2 battles per night. The downtime will be minimal as bids and territories will have been selected before hand.

12. Will Euro Realism have their own campaign or will theirs be rolled into stateside campaigns somehow?

No, they will be rolled into one.

Yea, looks like a ton of fun, needs a lot of ironing, if you need help let me know.

This will be epic to say the least. If anyone has any recommendation or questions feel free to post them here or pm C-Whit, Blue Stealth, or me. The more help and participation, the better.
