question about steam

When i went on steam today, it started to download cs:s on it even though it was already downloaded onto my computer. Is this common? I have a mac btw so im new to steam

i think what you are saying is that its downloading a update for css. When you start steam it will start downloading updates (if avavible)

it was downloading 1.6 gigs of info though, are there updates that big?

idk how big the latest css update was but it was big!

Sometimes when I log on to Steam it says 'Steam has finished downloading Left 4 Dead 2' or something similar, but I'm not sure on a 1.6 GB download.
