so i upgraded my dsl internet and its better. but i still get dcd but atleast it is way shorter now only like 5-10 sec of downtime every 15-20 minutes. i was wondering since early in the morning and late at night my internet is awsom for me. could it be that because my internet is not protected with a pw that ppl r muching off my internet and thats y its slow/getting me dcd?

That could be a reason for slow internet. You could try setting up a WEP key or MAC Address filtering. You could also try directly connecting to the internet, bypassing the router if possible. If that fixes it, there may be something wrong with your router.

Are you on WiFi? If so, secure it.
Also, if you're living in a crowded area your connection can sink a bit once everyone else gets on

ya im on wifi and i live in a pretty crowded area got houses all around me for like 5 blocks no room to breath lol

Well unless you get fiber optics, that's just how it is.

ya how would i go about doing that i lost the cd that came with the router? so should i buy a new router or modem idk wich 1 i need

If your on a wifi connection and it's open, people could be sipping your bandwidth up. If your wifi is open, you can access your routers homepage (usually 192.168.1.1), now comes the hard part. Opening up your routers homepage will prompt you with a username & password. Generally the default UN and PW are admin & admin respectively, but it varies from brand name routers. Unless you already know the UN & PW, you need to provide us the router model so we can help.

If you are able to log in, your going to want to put up a password for your wifi. I advise against using a WEP password, it's absolete and easily cracked. What you want is a WPA or WPA2 if your router supports it.

If your issues are on a wired connection, then your problem isn't so simple.
