Two Problems

I just put in a SATA DVD burner. Now when I boot up my computer it takes a really long time to get to the windows log in screen. Once I'm logged in everything seems fine. I guess I might want to add that the DVD burner works fine.

My Comp consists of:
ASUS M2N32 SLI Deluxe Motherboard
nVIDIA 8600GT GPU
IDE 160g Wester Digital HD
AMD 4800+ AM2 X2 Processor
2x1g Crucial Ballistix DDR2 RAM
800watt PSU
Samsun SATA DVD writer

The second issue deals with my wireless. I need to connect directly but until then I'm using wireless. Every now and then and randomly it seems, I lose my connection which starts back up pretty quickly. This is the issue I need priority help with since I believe this is affecting my in-game play.

Do you have good signal strength to the router when it works? What brand of wireless router is it. Are you using it open or password protected. If it is secured what type of security are you using (wpa, wep etc). Have you confirmed that every once in a while you actually disconnect your signal and have to recconect or is it that you are experiancing internet lagg sometimes. and lastely how quick is 'start back up quickly'.

first issue - ::sigh assus ::sigh::. What you have to do is pay attention on startup and see if you can specify exactly where it is taking the extra time. Forexample, does it spend 5 minutes searching for a raid array, or durring your post when it is finding what is attached to the copmuter, or possibly it is just the windows loading screen that takes a really long time now. Knowing this well help determine where we go from here.

Since it's Christmas and all I'll have to get back to you with further detail, but here is what I know off hand:

The Long Boot Time Problem:
I turn on the computer, the ASUS flash screen comes up and then the screen goes black with a blinking underscore at the top left. It stays like this a very long time. Afterwords the windows load screen comes up and again it stays for a long time. After the log-in screen everything is back to normal.

Here is what I know off hand about the connection problem:
Netgear wireless router, password protected (not sure what kind), signal strength excellent.
I think it might just be lag sometimes. The computer tells me it is disconnected and web pages won't load. When it happens in-game nothing says I'm disconnected but I can't move or see whats going on. Disconnections out-of-game last a couple of seconds while in-game can last up to a half of a minute. It should be noted that my in-game play in normally always lagging.

Wireless problems are often more prevelant when using encryption (however encryption is good). One thing you may want to check is the router settings. Log intot he router and someplace in the settings (different for every router) there will be a sertting that determins how long you can be connected for before your connection expires and you have to recconect. Sometimes it is called timeout, sometimes it is certificate length, or lease time. See how long this is, it is common for htis ot be a day or however long max is.

Also, when you have time, I dont know how oftne this happens (can you roughly say?) but if yuou were to watch your signal strength right before and durring this when it happens, it would be nice to know if the router is glitching and the signal strength is going away - or if it stays ecellent and the router is just dropping you.

On the long boot, I have had that several times with my asus board - you will first want to turn off the computer and then clear the cmos. The directions will be in the motherboard book, but usually there are only like 3 ways. Two of which I will list out right here:
1) sometimes all you need to do is take the battery out and count to 20 and put it back in.
2) othertimes you have to leave the battery alone and change the cmos jumper to short the correct two pins (sometimes there is three pins, sometimes there is only two. If there is two short them)

Then when you turn your computer on it might say "warning cmos cleared press f2 to enter setup (or something) and you can either load the defaults or re set up your bios manually. This should take care of your problem. The other thing I would suggest is flashing your BIOS with the latest version from the asus website. If it is a bug that was fixed updating it will help.
