help with wireless connection

ok so i have verizon fios but im using a wireless adapter meant for xbox but it works fine for my computer. but i am not connection as fast as i used to and was wondering how i could increase my connection without switching to a wired connection

Well, I dont know anything about the xbox adapter you are using since I dont own an xbox.

What I can tell you is that even the slower Wireless B connection runs at 12Mbps (which is 3 times faster than most people's cable internet). With Fios, there are many levels and I dont know which level you are running at, however, 12Mbps is still plenty fast, and the only thing you might notice is a bandwidth crunch when you donwload all your pron at 5 in the morning.

I am wondering exactly how you are using an xbox adapter to somehow get wireless to your computer, perhaps the slow down has to do with the fact that the drivers were meant for the xbox or somehting? I guess what I am saying is that it shoudlnt be the wireless signal itself slowing you down, but the adapter (or less likely the router).

its a plug and play adapter that uses an ethernet cord. so my computer reads it as a wired connection. thanks for the response too

well do you have other computers on your network? You could go to DSLreports.com and take a speed test to make sure that your internet line is still fast (that lets you know if its outside th ehouse or inside)

Then you could do a couple of pings to the other computers on your network and some outside such as the good server. This will tell you if you are experiancing any loss of packets to the various places you test.

Finally you could transfer a large file from your computer to another on yoru home network and see how fast it goes - this will tell you the speed of your computer to the router and router to the other computer.

to do pings open up run type in CMD and then type "ping yahoo.com" or "ping 192.168.1.101" (substitute ip of your home computers or router)

..... exactly? Everything I said above was assuming that it was, but i guess i could correctly myself and change it to say 'it doesnt matter how the other computer is connected'. Do what I said so we know where the problem is.
