Hey folks. Check this out.


They've announced the winners of the contest, and the update will be coming shortly. What do we all think?

I LOVE that the Crocodile Dundee sniper pack won; that's the most badass thing I've ever seen. The soldier pack also looks great, and the scout pack... well, it has a fish in a newspaper. How can you possibly say no to that?

opinions? thoughts? Think something else should have won?

EDIT: polycount's website is broken. obviously they've never dealt with the furious ' I MUST SEE THIS NOW' of the TF2 community. be patient... it might be back up in a few years, should you not know about the packs that one. I'll search for links right now while it's dead.

I thought they were going to pick a winner for every class :( There were some really good ones.

Well, I'm glad the Saharan Spy and Gasman pyro were in there, those two were some of my favorites. However, the scout one isn't that great (there was a really good one with a scattergun made of bicycle parts) and I really liked the Nuclear Solider one.

Whatever, this is going to be a kick ass update. It'll blow the engie outta the water.
 
I'm a bit disappointed with the winners. I don't really like any of them except possibly the Special Delivery Pack and the weapons of the Saharan Spy pack.
A pack I feel should have really won was the LucyCharm pack.

Why would they give the engineer another sentry, right after the engi update.

Originally, they were actually only going to pick one winner. They said that the quality of the submissions were so phenomenal that they picked not 2, not 3... but FIVE.

The scout one you're referring to is the paperboy one... I think the reason it didn't get in was likely the reason that everyone in the forum told him to fix; the hat was yellow... no team colors. worse, it wasn't all that well detailed. The winners were picked based on everything, not just some things.

I liked the atomic soldier as well. good stuff there. However, don't lose hope: the polycount thread said that Robin told them that of the 70 submissions, over half of them were good enough to be in game. He said the possibility of more being included in future updates is very strong.

and I agree. I think this thing will far surpass the engie update. The soldier, spy, scout, sniper, and pyro will all be getting primary weapon unlocks, as well as a number of other slots. That's huge. There are going to be 12 new weapons added to the game, and 5 new hats. This is going to be the biggest content upgrade in a while, and it's going to kill every update before it. It's gonna be awesome.


Assuming all of the weapons aren't as lackluster as the vast majority of the other community weapons.

The Sniper one is amazing

Was hoping to see the Heavy one with the AntiBear mask make the final cut
 
Why ruin an excellent Fez with those stupid sun glasses?

Agree with Beta on that Heavy one winning, I want a double minigun.

I agree with that. Great model work; looks really good. I think the issue is that the shield on the minigun connotes... well, a shield, so reduced damage. If valve were to implement it in any way that actually made sense for the model, it would probably be very unbalancing.
 
must resist....division transfer...TF2...getting so much more awesome...
 
All these community created items are awesome! I especially love the pages they created for them, they look so proffesional!
 
At least Valve is still giving us a glimmer of hope for the ones that didn't win. I guess they said that most of the entries are good enough that they might make it in game eventually. Hopefully it doesn't take too long for Valve to put the winners in game.
