Advice please? :)

I find a good way to do fast lateral jumps is by crouch jumping, but shooting 5-6 feet in front of you instead of beneath you. You can also shoot at walls you are near to get the effect, which is what you seem to be asking. Obviously you have to look the opposite direction from which you wish to travel to shoot the rocket, so it is easiest to do with a high-dpi mouse so you can turn back and see where you are going again.

A good way to practice is to create a 2 fort server to practice on (and guys, please give me a sec to explain before you burn me for liking 2 fort). If you practice running towards the water, snapping around, doing the lateral jump, then looking back, it'll give you good practice. You should be able to pretty easily clear the water and get to the other side. Once you can consistently get that down, move on to other maps and practice in new scenarios.

Crazyrockets has hit on the best way to practice this type of jumping for the first time. Otherwise you should look at practicing on a rocketjump map. Even if someone posts a perfect video showing how it's done, it's still not as good as hands-on practice.

Since Kevimaster is a good rocketjumper, maybe you could ask to practice with him on a private server. Nothing beats seeing how it's done in-game and being able to replicate it.

Well I used to like the gunboats, but now think differently at times. I prefer the shotty or if I have a good uber/kritz medic the buff banner which in the long run lets you kill alot more people easily.

ya just practice and under standing how the game engine works.

i played a ton on of TF for quake and TFC when it came out and now TF2 so i got a really good feel for how movement works in quake style games and it just comes natural now.

now try to keep in mind how the game engine works and laod a map up and practice for an hour or 2

Instead of the normal rocketjump off the wall where you aim at a sorta 45 degree angle try to move your cursor a little higher up the wall.

Its really easy to wall rocket jump to let you get to the point faster, you just need to know at what angle and keep in mind the things that could block you like the roof other walls that stick out ect. Its very helpful and I use it often on different maps, just takes practice to do it properly.

That looks like an awesome technique. I'll definitely invest some time in to learning it.

It's a lot harder for me for some reason I don't know what keys I should be pressing / holding how to move my mouse etc.

Im not a pro soldier, but think of it this way if you shoot straight down and crouch jump you will get max height and not max distance. If you aim behind you and crouch jump and a 45 angle you will get really good height and distance. What you are looking for with wall jumping is distance with little height, so depending on the ceiling aim at about 90 angle straight behind you and jump as you shoot the wall next to you. You can also aim a bit lower or higher if needed to get better results. I dont normally crouch jump when doing these types of jumps but you can if you want, try that and see how it goes. Just know that if you fail the first few times dont give up, try it a couple times using different angles but make sure you are next to the wall when doing it the further from the wall you are the less distance you will get.

So, I've been getting the basics down about rocket jumping.
However, I watched a bunch of comp. play with tf2 soldiers
and they do this kind of jump called wall jumping where you jump off a wall of a building or object, you don't lose much HP and you travel very fast.

I can't seem to find a GOOD video on this technique.
If anyone can teach me or show me a video on how to do this
and how to practice it, that'd be great.

Thanks, Ruthless. :)
Sometime in august I'll be hosting a comp. solly class in which we will cover rocket jumping efficiently amongst other things. and if there is enough interest I might even turn it into a class on regular basis.

Alright, well after getting ready to publish my video that I had scrapped I decided to do a little more work on it and got sucked in and now I really want to finish it, but within the next hour I'm going to post one of the jumps that is in it, at regular speed and slow motion so you can see how I move my mouse. As for the keys, I release W right when I start the jump and in this one barely use A or D as it is a mostly straight jump.

EDIT: Actually, to not spoil the surprise, I'll show you one of the jumps I scrapped because it was kinda boring :P
