Tips, Tricks and Strategies

I see your point, but here we are scrutinizing a player who has no experience and offering bad tips. That scrutiny is, in effect, helping people out. I don't see why we can't scrutinize a player and judge their credentials after offering tips. If I wanted to learn how to play tennis I would make sure my instructor had at least some experience and I would ask him what that experience was. Also, if he gave me bad advice I would expect other instructors to correct that advice and teach me a more appropriate way to do something.

I feel like that's what we're trying to do here. I don't want to see people set back in their skill progression because they are trying to adopt strategies that an overwhelming majority of people have found to be ineffective or unnecessary. So, An, where should we draw the line? Can we analyze other players' tips without analyzing their credentials? Would that be good enough?

I'm all for scrutiny and discussing flaws in each others' advice, but not each other, if that makes sense. No one is necessarily doing that now, but I've seen how these threads can go. It was a simple reminder of why this thread was made, that's all :)

in other news, the 10/10 by the build orders - what does it mean?

That number is your unit count, well considering it's early game your worker count unless it specifys to build a non-worker unit in the early game build order.

So like at 9 workers I build a pylon, 12 workers a gateway, etc.

50 bucks says it me
This is so wrong, you also need to factor in how fast your getting minerals.

I know that its just like Sc1

Marauders and Medivacs, Fly into the minerals if it isnt defended, drop of, get the main, when the forces come, go back and move to the next base.

"What the hell are Smithereens anyways?"

depends on the map most have them at the corner of the map but when it does pull off its game over man

well as i have noticed alot with this edition of SC is that in order to make the high end units you are forced to expand, instead of forcing myself to expand i make low end units such as marines reapers, zealots stalkers, hydras. atleast lvl 2 upgrades i can spit out so many small faster then they can expand. Most of the time a player is trying to go for the "big guns", i hit him early sure he may have defense or some military but my units are cheaper to make then his big stuff and also takes longer eventually ill win.

you still need to expand for that startgey

if your building all the cheap fast and weak stuff your going to be losing it at a high rate too so you really need to expand so you can keep spitting all of these unit out all the time with out losing your income.

and also to be successful in trying to attack first you will need to really refine your build order.

once again dude, that was Starcraft 1, most maps have an empty space for air units in SC2.
*sigh* i can play the AI even though i dont own Sc2 but the maps i have done have no room to drop troops off in the mineral field without being detected.

why has this become such a flame thread when its supposed to offer up tips and tricks?
I dont know i posted helpful tips and then everyone became a critic on it.

Imo,

Some of the stratgies seem easy when you read it.
But when you're the one playing you be underpressure from all the multi-tasking: macroing and microing ur unit and etc.
It will be harder than it looks.

There's always a counter to everything, is just depend on how well you can executing the move.

So you can watch all the video, replays and read all the forums you want, but it different once you're the one actually in the game playing.

So my tips for all is saying dont spend all you're time finding out how to win, but actually go on and just play the game.
Not saying that you should block off from watching replays and such, but lessen it and go on the battlefield and fight!

Practice and experience is the key to win!

P.S
Muta and zergling are really hard to beat. I hate zerg.

The sheer amount of APM you need to pull some stuff off gets crazy. You have 10 things you want to do, but you can only select a few to do at that point until you raise your overall APM.

Even Koreans with there 300+ apm have problems doing everything, that's what starcraft is about. Choosing what is the top priority and executing it as you go.

Starcraft is one of the most mentally taxing games you'll play I believe, after a 40 min match your heart is racing and you have to take 5mins to just rest before another game.

lol i just get bord and imo its not really taxing to me. The longest match i did was 3 hours and all the minerals were used up so we basically just threw everything at each other but i had a battlecruiser that was saved me from a zergling and drone rush.

Here's the best tip you can get, play the game and just practice. The more you play and get used to it, the better you get.

Another tip; Dont just 1a into your opponents army, you need to learn to micro your units. This is where all the fun of starcraft comes in, seeing top player micro there units is so much fun to watch.
