The swing by Jean Honor? Fragonard

This is a typical "intrigue" picture by Fragonard, who studied under Boucher, who in turn was a fantastic colorist. However, Fragonard is most often thought as the better, and in this work that proves true. The theme to this painting is sensuality, as seen by the young mans reaching out hand, and the statue of cupid holding his finger to his lips. The scene very closely resembles a comic opera stage, making an interesting statement about the frivolity of young love.

Due to Fart being on vacation, he has asked me to high jack his thread for the time being. I would like to shift away from paintings and origami for a while, and back to marble sculptures. Specifically, Bernini.
Gian Lorenzo Bernini was a very well known sculptor in the 1600s. His "David" depicts David as he is preparing to strike Goliath while the Israelites face the Philistines in war. According to the bible, David was a young boy who heard the challenge of the Philistine giant Goliath, and then killed him, and all the Philistines fled. Eventually David became the King of Israel, after he married King Saul's daughter, Michal, and when Saul is killed later by the Philistines, David becomes king. This piece was very unique when it came out, since so other person had attempted to capture this type of motion before. Also, it is especially important to me, since I am Jewish, and David is a very important person in Judaism. Still, to anyone the piece is a symbol of intelligence triumphing over brute strength.

I really don't know much about this artist sculptures. Just searched his name and this one caught my eye.
I know it was made in 1621-1622 when he was about 23.
the man in the sculpture is named Pluto and he is trying to seize the woman.
again i don't really know much about his.

Brunelleschi turned to architecture after he lost a competition to build some bronze doors that were probably pretty famous or something. So he was all "Hell, might as well build stuff". So he did.
These were funded by the Medici family, which is like Bill gates meets the Mafia meets a plate of noodles. Fun stuff.

Fart this is one of the best threads I've seen on these forums. I wish I had something to contribute, but everything posted here is just superb. I've learned a lot about different art just lurking through here, and I considered myself quite an artsy fartsy person. I'm just going to post one of my favorite pieces.
Salvador Dali - Galatea of the Spheres
I don't know much about the piece, it caught my eye in a Spanish textbook of all things. I love the way it can be looked at from so many directions, looking at the face, looking at the individual spheres, looking through the negative space between the spheres, it is really an excellent piece. I love a lot of Dali work, also MC Esher. I've always had a mind more into the surreal aspects of... everything, so their works speaks much more to me.
I'm also a sculpture fanatic. I grew up around a sculptor (My Uncle) and an abstract painter (Grandfather), so I've inherited the best of both men, in my opinion. I'd post some of my work, but it doesn't hold a candle to some of the stuff that had been posted here, especially ToiletPastries.
EDIT: Posting an update on the PT Barnum statue for the Bethel Library! He is now bronzed!
I'm also thinking about calling you Artsy Farsty Vader, and the entire time I typed this I was distracted by your cookie monster signature.
Deserves a Sticky.
