Playstation network not connecting

I haven't been able to connect to my playstation network and I think it has to do with my router, So besides opening ports I can't figure out what to do, I also need a list of ports. I have only opened ports 80-50000 (Like Sony Said). I still can't connect unless I plug my PS3 right into the Modem and it works, but My modem only has 1 slot. And According to bestbuy "Modems only have 1 slot, No modems are made with more then 1 slot" So, I have no choice but to plug it into my router, which won't let me get on.

modems, no. gateways, yes these are like modems with a built in router, wired or wireless so you try a gateway if all else fails.
Also is the router approved by sony to be able to use to get on PSN. MS has a list of router, modems, gateways that LIVE is certified to run on, so Sony should have a similar thing

Its a D-link, So I think it would work... But maybe not.

Well, I dont know how familiar you are with routers or with home networks - that makes it a little hard to advice without starting with the basics. You say you have opened up your ports 80-5000,........... are you sure that you have forwarded them to the correct ip address?

When you plug your PS into your router, does it get assigned the correct, or a valid ip address?

I have to express my displeasure with the false description of a gateway, both in this forum, and in the market lately. A gateway doesnt have to have anything to do with a router or a modem, but can. Today, a router with a built in switch (sometimes called a 4 port router) is also called a gateway by many companies. You cannot go out and buy a "gateway" as some thing. That would be like buying "blue". I cna buy a product hwich is blue, just as I can buy a product which acts as a gateway.

If it helps think about this sentance: there is a gateway which connects one network to another network. In my house, I have a home network. Outside my house, there is an internet network. My router connects my network to the internet and thus is a gateway. Thompson your router should be fine if it is setup correctly, as a real router looks like any other internet signal comming into the device and your Ps shouldnt know the difference except that ther eis a ahreware firewall between itself and your internet.

Well I do sort of know about Routers and that, But Do I forward my Playstations IP adress, or my routers, and Yes I have opened Ports 80-50000 Both UDP and TCP. Although I am not sure what you mean by Correct or valid IP adress, I just know that it gets assinged with the last 2 number different then my router.

As moinkey stated this is very hard to explain not knowing your tech level.
Can you manually set up an IP address for your ps3? I know you can for xbox360.
If so you have to go into your router settings and set up a dmz. There is usually a place in the settings to enable dmz.
Lets say your router ip is 192.168.1.1 Set your dmz to 192.168.1.200
Then manually set your ps3
to ip address 192.168.1.200
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS settings automatic

Like I stated, I don't know your tech level. If you know your router ip address that would help. If you know how to get to your router settings through your web browser that helps too.

DamDuck has suggested one way which would work - his method skips port forwarding and infact, with his method I should add that you want to turn off manual port forwarding. The DMZ on a router basically means - forward all ports to this ip address unless they are manual specified.

If you wish to do it the way that sony suggests that is ok, you can forward ports and skip Ducks suggestion - howeve,r if the power goes out and your DHCP assigns your PS3 a different IP then you have to start over again.

I am trying to assess your knowledge form your posts - it seems that you have limited knowledge with seting up a home network. Specifically, you keep saying that you are "opening" all these ports but then you say your not sure if you need to forward them to the PS3 or the router ip.

To be clear, the phrase "open a port" actually means "forward the port to the computer IP you are trying to get working". In this case, you want to forward your ports to the IP address which your PS3 is getting assigned.

Next problem - you say 'its getting assigned the same except for the last two numbers" this puzzles me. With IP4 (currently in use) an IP address is 4 numbers long seperated by a period #1.#2.#3.#4 or also seen as 192.168.1.123
When you say all bu the last two numbers are the same, I hope you meant digits not numbers - becausethe chances are that your router IP is 192.168.1.1 and that your PS3 should be something like 192.168.1.101

If the IP address are infat similar liek this then it is getting the correct IP or a valid ip address. If you see an ip address like 169.x.x.x then you are not getting a valid IP address and your problem lies in the physical connection or router settings.

My Router Ip is 192.168.0.1

My playstation IP is 192.168.0.103

I Tried adding it to DMZ , It still won't work.

Ill try re-setting the IP with DamDucks suggestions, and thank for your help too greenmonkey.

What would the Primary and Secondary DNS settings be?

set dmz on router to 192.168.0.200
ps3 ip address 192.168.0.200
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.1
DNS settings automatic
if you set your dns to automatic on the ps3 you should not have to put in a primary or secondary dns

I don`t think I can set it automaticlly , because when I set IP Adress manually it makes me put in DNS... Maybe, Ill try again.

Edit: If I set everything else and try the DNS it wont let me advance, it just stays there, unless I fill a Primary DNS in, then it will let me pass.


Also: When I test it out This is what it says:

UPnP - Avalible
NAT Type - Nat 2

DamDuck should edit his post,... he has a typo consisting of the number 1 - he wants the DMZ to be the same as the PS3 which is 192.168.0.200 (the 1 was a typo).

IF YOU DO THE DMZ METHOD YOU MUST TURN OFF YOUR PORT FORWARDING.

And lastely, just type this in as your primary DNS 4.2.2.2

Thanks Monkey, Ill keep trying, So I bassicly gotta un-open those ports?

Edit: I tried all that with un-opening those ports, added the PS3 IP to DMZ and I still get the same as before.

I dont knwo what router you have, and eveyr model is different - sometimes you have to not only put the DMZ ip in, but there is often a checkbox that you have to 'turn on' the DMZ.

and remember, if you forward all your ports and then set the PS3 to the DMZ ip, the forwarded ports are an exception that overrides the DMZ setting.

I took off the Forwarded ports, and put my PS3's IP into the DMZ, and Checked the Enabled Option, Then apply.

But I am running a Dlink Dl-624 Wireless G Router

But my PS3 is running Wired for now.
