Hey folks, it's that time again... This time, it's the Spy's primary slot. Do you go for the plain ol' revolver or the shiny new Ambassador?

Ambassador's stats, for reminder purposes:

  • Crits on Accurate Headshot
  • accuracy decreases for a short while immediately after shot
  • -15% damage done
  • 20% slower firing speed

Go nuts.

EDIT: not only did I fail to include a poll in the last one, making this one WITH a poll, but I also failed to realize that you could add a poll to a post after you've already made it with thread tools. Double posted for no reason, but I DID learn a lesson. Good to know. But, nonetheless, double fail.

Ambassador. It has ALOT more versatility. See a Sniper? Headshot, pop another shot off in his chest and before he even knows what happened, hes dead. It can also save your life. Half-health Pyro chasing you? Boomheadshot. Also helps your team, especially when its a situtation that its too dangerous to run in there and pull a stab. Heavy that just won't move from that spot with 10 Pyros spychecking his back? No probs. Headshot 1, 2, 3. Dead. Nuke the Pyros. Boss stage over. Look, you got a Grenade Launcher of Revenge. Looks like it'll come in handy with that pesky Highlander army of Spycrabs. Revolver does have it advantages over the Ambassador but it has less capabilities. Seriously. Ambassador Spy vs. Revolver Spy. BOOMHEADSHOT win. In all seriousness though, I think the Ambassador is well worth the +5 accuracy upgrade you got from the boss token drop.

BTW your sig looks like it says Breadmaker.

Revolver for me. I started trying the Ambassador a bit for whenever I play Spy (see: never), but I prefer the revolver, because I'm not good at aiming with only a crosshair and I'd rather do a decent amount of damage rather than less to none.

As Wingspan said, "The only real Ambassador advice is to aim for the head. A headshot=102 dmg, a total miss=0 dmg. Do not use the Ambassador if you cannot aim."

Im torn on this one, I use both equally now. I used to be all about the ambassador, which is awesome if you can headshot and its not so bad while running away and shooting. Revolver is all about finishing off your opponent if you cant get a stab on him and a lot of times its what saves me from different classes.

Can't headshot with the ambassador. It's useless to me. Besides, it's not like the revolver isn't powerful.

I've gotten decent with headshotting with the ambassador so I choose that now, used to do revolver all the way.

Revolver, good for a nice damage input regardless of distance. Random crits that save the day.

Ambassador, good for people who can aim and get headshots. Nice lucky headshots for the lulz. No random critz, so if you don't headshot you're dead.

'nuff said.

Revolver - but I currently have the Ambassador enabled just in case someone suddenly decides to stay still.

My spying doesn't even entail firing off any ammo.
Stab. Miss? Cloak up, run and hope for the best.

I hope for the hallucination-inducing pills of TF2. Then I will start Spying again in earnest.

Revolver. It is much better because it is better at close range, where the spy is supposed to attack. The problem with the ambassador is that it is not accurate enough at close range to be as effective as the revolver. Also, the revolver is almost as good, if not better, at long range. It does 20 base damage, which is enough to kill a sniper in 4-6 shots at medium range, whereas with the ambassador, you HAVE to get that headshot, or, as Werner said, or you are dead due to the weapons cool-down time.

Am torn between the two as well. Sometimes when my aim is having a good day I can headshot a lot of people...

Earlier today I was able to headshot kill a dead ringer spy. :)

Really they are for two different play types. I find the ambassador better if im using the C&D because im standing still and behind enemy lines anways so picking off nonmoving targets is very easy. But if im using the deadringer i am more mobile so i have alot less time to find the slow enemies lol.

This is just the way i use the two weapons..tell me im wrong..dare ya xD

Well I played with the Ambassador a little more, and its not that bad. It fits my play style of sitting in a corner with CnD and then shooting if I can't backstab. Changing the crosshair to a green dot sure helps with the aiming, I can actually go from missing 99% of my shots to missing 98.9 of my shots. Progress is progress.

You're wrong you nub :-P... done and done...

I tend to use the Ambassador mostly, but I think both are equally amazing weapons. Ambassador is better if you have skill.

For some reason, I read Skill/CJaZ's post in the Shamwow Guy's voice, fits perfectly

Back to the topic, regular Revolver for me. I can't aim :-)

I like the regular Revolver.

If you're going for max DPS, the Ambassador obviously has the most potential, but oftentimes when you bust out your primary, you're just trying to survive, not make a carefully placed shot.

What sealed the deal for me was when they changed it so the first shot of every weapon shot in a perfectly straight line. Then I no longer felt the need to use the Ambassador.
