Suddenly today my steam will not open. It shows it in task manager but I cannot see it in my system tray like normal. I have googled and search the forums but nothing has helped. I disabled all services, programs not needed, uninstalled, reinstalled and even tried a new directory. Nothing, it always shows in task manager but I can get to nothing in steam, Checked firewall and so many things I can't list them here. I cannot play any steam games right now and this sucks. Anybody got any ideas? I'd pee on a sparkplug if I thought it would help!

This happens to me at times - open task manager, click processes... Look for steam.exe... End process...there may be more then 1 so make sure to close all steam.exe - then reopen steam .... IF THIS DOESNT FIX THE ISSUE.., DELETE THE CLIENT.BLOB FILE AND RESTART STEAM

Yeah I've done all that several times and in different variations. I am out of ideas now. I have poured through steam forums and just don't understand why such a huge problem goes unresolved. I am sure it's something on my end I just dont know what.

Hey, i found this on the steam support page
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3352-RYON-4107

Steam may fail to start and silently terminate, or it may continue running in the background without loading the Login dialog.

To determine whether Steam has silently terminated or is still running, please check the Windows Task Manager:

1.Press the CTRL, ALT, and DEL keys simultaneously
2.Click the Task Manager button and select the Processes tab
3.If you can locate Steam.exe under the Image Name column, Steam is running in the background

This issue is most commonly caused by a third-party application interfering with Steam. Please see the Programs Which Interfere with Steam topic and the Spyware, Adware, and Viruses Interfering with Steam topic for instructions to ensure any conflicts are resolved.

i disabled my Antivirus, didnt work
i uninstalled my xfire, didnt work...

EDIT
*I do not have enough time to try other things, if you have it fixed, please post back here and tell me what you did, thanks*

im guessing its the new update that broke steam for some users

You may be right. I tried installing on another computer and got no where. Router maybe? Don't know everything seems fine. Plus I can delete client blob and connects just fine to update then same crap.

But i installed it into my laptop and it allows me to start steam...

I am having the same problem on my spare computer. Gotta go to work soon maybe when people get up somebody has dealt with this before. I cannot play any games until I figure this one out! Dang

Please try this - open IE.. go to tools(top right).. internet options...Advanced...Reset -- this will reset ALL Browsers to default.. and yes, Steam runs in its own Browser... hope this helps you guys.
