Steam Issues

Hi, I'm not sure where to go anymore, so I guess I'll ask this here. (I sent a message to Steam, and they're taking A LONG time to get back to me.)

Basically, I cannot play CSS or TF2; however, Half-Life 2 works. For the past three days, I've tried to start CSS and TF2, and I am greeted with the message, "The Steam servers are currently too busy to handle your request. Please try again in a few minutes." I tried un-installing and re-installing TF2, but I am greeted with the same message. I've changed my download region and renamed/deleted the ClientRegistry. In other words, I am lost and do not know what to do.

I would really appreciate some help, especially from someone who knows this problem and has encountered it before.

is it every time because when the game is being updated that error ussually pops up even if u already have the update and tf2 just got like 2 updates back to back and the entire steam engine got an update whcih applies to tf2 and css so that could be it have you tried latly?

other than that i dunno what would cause it also people in the Tech section on our forums may be able to help you more

that is weird..when did you message valve? iv had to message them several times usually takes 24-48 hours

Close Steam, go to your Steam folder and delete the file clientregistry.blob, restart steam, win!

Thats what usually works for me with similar errors.

When you restart steam it'll have to redownload the file so that might take a minute or two, but other than that it should solve your problem.

hmm, have you tried reinstalling the games that don't work?

Oh, and if it was two days ago, I don't think they work weekends. So that'd be why you haven't gotten a response.

Yeah, I tried reinstalling TF2, but it gives me the same message when I do that.

Hmm, would it be possible to re-try on another pc? It might be firewall/router issues.

i would try, restarting your modem, router, then flush your DNS (command prompt, type ipconfig /flushdns) then attempt steam again. if that doesn't work it sounds like your firewall(s) may be blocking ports required by steam to update.


The following ports must be open in your firewall and router for Steam and Steam Games to work:

UDP 1200 (used for friends service)
UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive
TCP 27020 to 27039 inclusive
TCP 27040 and 27041 only for CyberCafe Owners

Computers running Dedicated Servers need these ports open:

UDP: 27015 and 27020 (default HLDS, SRCDS and HLTV port)
TCP: 27015 (SRCDS Rcon port)

If nothing we've said works, just go all out and uninstall and reinstall Steam, that might be whats required unfortunately.

It may be a network issue. Have you tried on another computer?

Bummer man. My only suggestions are what's already been previously stated - but I will share a story that might be of interest.

My last router (a Netgear wireless G - some model from 2005 I think) was broken "by" TF2. I am not kidding - though other applications could have done it, I wasn't doing much other than playing TF2 at the time.
If I were to fire up TF2 and try to do an "internet server" search (as opposed to my constantly disappearing Server Favorites), it would bog the router down to where all internet traffic was throttled from that point forward.
The server refresh would then time out, and then if I restarted the server search or tried to restart TF2, it would time out forever.
Restarting the router would fix it to a point, but eventually it got so bad that I dumped it and have been problem-free since.

I missed if you said whether or not you jacked straight in to the cable modem. That was always fine for me.

I dunno, I'm using internet at my college, so I really don't have access to a router. It was working fine before, and the last CSS and TF2 update seem to correspond with this issue.
