Xbox red rings!!!

i just got a 360 for christmas and i dont want it to die, so do any of your guy know who to stop this from happening and who to fix it if it does??

The original line of XBox's where shipped with faulty thermal epoxy which was not strong enough to hold the heat sink on the processor - and over time and shipping it made only an 80% contact with the processor instead of full contact.

On warm days with frequent gamming use, the processor would over heat and cause permanent dammage - red rings. Because of the fault of the product micrsoft has extended the warranty from 1 year to i think 3 or 5 years (or something). If your XBox gets red rings, then send it back to MS and they will send you a new XBOX with a corrected heatsink / epoxy situation in which the problem should not happen again.

However, although you can send your broken xbox in for a corrected xbox - you are not allowed to send in your working xbox for the corrected version even if yours still has the defect. (this is stupid) and thus, in my oppinion, its better to have it happen sooner than after the warranty expires.

Second, XBoxes shipped after a cirtain time are already fixed - I cant remember the date but I want to guess it was back in like september maybe? An XBox from xmas should already be the new systems.

If you have an older system and wish for it not to happen to you, then do not use it when it is warm either by the suns doing or your furnaces. Allow plenty of air flow and do not stack electronics.

The tip that i can help you is that you buy an Intercooler EX by nyco. It Cools your Xbox 360 console for good. Secondly the red rings happened to me, and all I did to fix it was that i unplugged everything and shook the Xbox for a couple minutes. Then the red rings went away, so the next day I decided to buy an Intercooler EX by Nyco. It really helps your Xbox stay cold even if you are playing for countless hours. The Cooler only ranges from about $20-$25. So I recommend you to go by an intercooler EX, it is an excellent product, and I recommend that you buy it for you Xbox 360, and there is a great chance that the red rings will not appear when you have an Intercooler EX
So those are my tips, and I hope you enjoy your new Xbox 360. It is a fascinating machine!!

i have had my x360 since the start and the only time i got "the red ring of death" is when i hadnt plugged in compleatly right... mine is still well and has been played on very offten trough the years

mine was made in 9-12-2005 (so the defects) and i never got the red rings of death and doom even tho ive played in a room with 3 other 360s, a wii and like 35 kids at a dance and my 360 in the back felt like it was on fire (well felt is keyword) but it lots of vent.
ive had in a low ventalation situtation.
And still it works.
if youre paranoid get the cooler, ill get one as soon as im not lazy, plus if it gets the 3 RR of death, you get a brand spankin new 360 and you can keep your HDD and your 250+ saves and 200 hours of playing Oblivion (my friend) and media and such.
So if it does get the 3 RR of death, not all is lost except some time to get a new one.

I am on my fourth box! Now I have to ship this one back. It died on CoD4 right after Christmas. I had the intercooler so that didn't help.

my xbox just got the red rings about a week ago and i sent it in, they said it will come back in about 2-3 weeks... their service is really great they walk you through some steps on how to check/fix any problems and then they send you a box in 2-3 days where all u do is place your xbox in and send it back where they will send u a refurbished or a new one, in addition they extend your warranty by 3 years and give u 3 months of free xbox live!

To prevent it should take care of it really, make sure there isnt dust around it because it can ruin the cooling fan and other stuff inside. Thats it really i probably got dust in mine cause i kept it under my tv (its a tight spot) so like others said to keep it ventilated

Yes, ventalition is the key.


Also, NEVER EVER EVER SHAKE the xbox. You can mess up the internals inside and is almost as bad as dropping it.


I have an elite with the intercooler and it runs perfect. Only hot part is where the heat exits the intercooler, as it should

yesssss, i agree with baron hahah. hmmmm... I suggest getting that fan cooling thing that goes on the back of your 360 so you could play for godly amount of hours =D

I have had a bad experience with intercoolers, especially with the kind that mount onto the back of the console. With too much heat the intercoolers can actually melt to the xbox.
