Explorer.EXE infected

So after telling him to stay away from the dirty websites or whatever he was doing, just hit F8 while booting and did a system recovery making the system as it was shipped from the factory. The notebook came with Mcafee and did nothing for him so removed that and installed AVAST! I have put Avast on about 10 machines over the past year and all machines running flawlessly.

Had Kaspersky for about 2 years and it was good but i removed it becuase it was having issues. installed AVG and it has been fine for now
 
I suggest trying Hitman Pro 3.5, great software, completely free. Got rid of my "google redirect bug" in about ten minutes with little effort.

Suggested setup
been running this setup for 3+ yrs with no major infection or OS Infections you are having.
also on side note... stop using Internet explorer. get Mozilla Firefox or another browser.

Chrome >
It's been proven, too. Chrome is the best browser. The only reason to use Firefox anymore is if you're addicted to add ons.

Google Chrome + Bright House "Wideband" (40mb/s Down, 10mb/s Up) = Win.

The only time I use any other browser is when I'm doing my school work because Chrome isn't supported by the system. (Virtual School = Win!)

The only time I use any other browser is when I'm not on my computer or a computer that has it.
 
LIKE I SAID IN A SIMLAR THREAD TO THIS ONE
try checking your HKEYREG for syntax that seem suspicious. If you're inexperienced with that kind of stuff i would reccomed going to an electronic store, they certainly know their stuff..

furthermore the D drive is a backup for your system. now if im not mistaking the virus is trying to infect yout C:\ drive and wants you to trigger a system recovery, which has one or more infected files causing severe damage to your computer... luckily the antivirus program has detected it. i would advice you to quarantene those files and the system hopefully will make new ones.. i had a simlar virus 3 years ago and it kept duplicating itself so to conclude:

quarantene before the virus can duplicate it self

oh and by the way (im not gonna start a big fight about it)
but i find AVG to be quite a decent anti virus it just takes up a bit memory usage, if you only install the modules you REALLY need the anti virus program will work just fine :P

explorer.exe is not IE. In fact it's very far from it. *Just try Ctrl+Alt+Del and end process on explorer.exe. Your desktop turns off. On top of that, if you uninstall IE from your computer everything Windows tries to do starts slowing down. They put its grubby little hands in every damn process.

**If you do, just hit Windows + R, type in "explorer.exe", or browse for the file, which it will be in "C:\Winows"

I uninstalled IE once from one of my older computers and ended up with a faster computer, but slower internet connection... Had to reinstall it because it was causing major lag in my games (500+ ping)

Take a scan, and show me the log. I'll help you remove it ^^
