The Official Creepy Story Thread!

Sorry about the long hiatus and the non-release of Chapter 3, because it's gone nowhere. I'm back in the hospital, my pancreatitis shot up again and now I've got a feeding tube along with all the damn IV medications, so I haven't really felt up to writing. I feel the least I could do is jumpstart this thread with a new story, so here goes.

I think I'm going for a more traditional method of 'Horror story' telling, so it may be a little schlocky though I've tried to avoid cliches as much as possible.

[blockquote] These old walls By Kadath Bird

These old walls. Four to a room, two to a staircase. There was nothing odd about them when I moved out to this old rural farmhouse. I picked this spot because it was away from civilization- miles away. I hate people, I hate the city. I hate everything about both those things, so out here in the desert, this old rural house still standing, the most civilization I see is the occasional passing family car, presumably taking their kids to some theme park in the next state over. It's a waste of time if you ask me.

These old walls. Painted a different colour in each room, only fragments of the colour remain in the dilapidation from the years this house has stood, but the strange thing is how thick they still are. You think they would be wasting away. I took out a hammer and a nail, and began to hang a picture on these bare walls. The nail would begin to enter the walls, but then I would hear a gurgling sound, and it would fall out. I pounded harder, the gurgling continued but I held the nail in and pounded again. It stayed, but the sound coming from the walls continued, and a fresh black and red liquid began to slowly pour out from where I put the nail, the wind blew hard around the house, and it sighed, almost angrily.

These old walls. They talk, they talk with the wind, but it's nothing you couldn't expect from such an old house. But at night, even when there is no wind blowing through these harsh lands, I hear sighing, almost like breathing, and in the darkness, the walls move. They close in on me, and then I hear a sigh, and they return to their original position. Merely hallucinations of the dark, I've had them before, maybe they are even callbacks to a day when my morning drink would be spiked with nothing more than LSD.

These old walls. You already know they bleed. These old walls, they cry and they sigh, real tears, real blood, real voices. I wrote them all off as hallucinations in the past, but I know know that they are far from simple tricks of the mind. They have been happening too often... And the house is angry with me. Angry for disturbing it, and I feel the need to know why this house is like this. I don't believe in ghosts, I don't believe in hauntings, but there is definitely something here... I can feel it breathe down my neck every night.

These old walls are driving me mad. I decided the only way I could solve my problem was to try and find the root, I went out to my chopping block and grabbed my axe and walked into one of the few empty rooms in the house. The walls still showed a tint of yellow wallpaper, otherwise they were as dilapidated as the rest of the house. I took my axe, and slammed it into the wall. They screamed, a howling of the wind to most people, but to me it was screaming. The blood literally poured out, but I kept hacking through the wood ignorning it's screams and sighs, and finally, a body fell out of the wall. I reached my hand into the hole it fell out of, it seemed too small for a whole body to fall out of as it did, and I felt more flesh. More bone. More blood. I pulled my hand out and began to hack at the bodies inside and at the hole I had made. It widened, and more screams were to be heard as bodies began to pile. I got to my knees, and laughed madly. Once the wall was empty, I had taken everything else, the wall began to lean and crumble. It had been these bodies that kept the walls standing for so long, and no doubt, the other walls had their fair share. I did what any sane person would have done by then- leave.

Those old walls, they weren't always there. It was once a burial ground and a church, but when the bodies where exhumed the people did not want to rebury them, and they did not have the mortar to keep the new building standing, so they simply pushed the bodies into the walls to keep the building standing. And except for the one I had crumbled, the house is still there, with it's old walls, standing for an eternity. [/blockquote]

Decided to do another. Sort of inspired by the good old days of Thor's posts here (I think I'm the only person posting here other than the occasional comment on my stories >_>), especially "The tongue" and "The Medic" which are some of the few folklore tales I have found that has creeped me out.

I was on an internal debate on what kind of dog it should have been. I was debating over hounds or German Shepards, and figured that the latter is probably better for this story.

I'm still stuck in the hospital for a few weeks :( I miss DODS and TF2, this computer could run them, but the hospitals internet is basically just wireless 56k.

[blockquote]Watchdog By Kadath Bird

They called him "Illsick," old man "illsick." His property was off limits to family, friends, anybody who could gain his quarantine. Only doctors passed into his house. Dressed in hazard suits, always disturbing the neighbours. People also believe he has had a history of disturbed and violent actions, another part of his namesake of Mr. "Illsick." His body is ill, and his mind is sick.

Kids loved to trespass on his land and mock him from on the ground. He did not like that, not at all. So he had the doctors hire him a watchdog; A fine German sheppard trained to attack anyone, many believed that if it ever met it's owner it would even attack him. Every night, the dog howled. It howled and howled at nothing and no-one. It drove us all crazy, night and day. Stupid kids would taunt the dog so that it howled during the day as well. Even Mr. Illsick would yell from his window at the dog to "shut it's f**king trap" lest he "pull it inside out with a pair of old, rusty, salad tongs" to quote one of his bizarre benders, heard throughout the street just as loud as the dog's constant howling and growling.

Days passed and the strange would become the ordinary, Mr. Illsick's strange yellings, the dogs howling, the hazmat covered doctors walking in and out of his house. But one day, Mr. Illsick became better, and his quarantine was lifted. But he kept that dog, continued to yell at it, and he threatened it all the time, but in truth we think he was afraid of the dog. He would never enter his own back yards or his front lawn when he would leave his house, to avoid being seen by the dog, and maybe something else. But each night, they both yelled in futility at each other, until Mr. Illsick lived up to his name one night.

And on that night, the dog didn't howl. Mr. Illsick didn't yell, all was quiet on the street, and people slept peacefully. But the peace would be broken in the morning, on a close inspection of Mr. Illsick's yard, entrails and organs would be found strewn across the yard, and when people went to investigate, they were recognized as dog organs. But no blood was to be found, no blood at all. No blood in the yard, no blood anywhere at all. The only blood found was dried, and ironically, on a pair of old, rusty, salad tongs. It was clear who had done it, it was almost too obvious for everyone on this street, but when they found Mr. Illsick, his condition and location, would not be so obvious.

The howling returned that night. But it was much more guttural, almost as if it was imitated by another animal, or even a man. It was coming from the yard across the street, another family that owned a watchdog. Whimpering was heard before they could get downstairs to checkout the noise coming from their yard, but when they found it it was empty, except for their dogs body, it's throat torn out by sharp teeth. This continued to happen down the avenues, until one day, an investigation was put out on Mr. Illsick, who had gone missing and was known to have killed his dog, but when they went to his house, they noticed in the backyard, a stalky German Sheppard watching them intently. The cops did a double take, before entering the back yard. The dog growled, when it stood on it's hind legs, and they had found Mr. Illsick, wearing the skin of his dog, acting as if he was a dog, guarding his property, and taking out any 'competitors'. I watched from my window next door, as he tore the throats out of the cops, with evidently sharp teeth.

Wooo! They're back! Nice work Croutons, and I need to speak with you in steam soon.

[quote1205390245=CroutonsofDeath{RD}]
I may consider it. :D In fact, this isn't related but I actually am writing a novel[la] right now that's a both a tribute and evolution of the zombie genre. It's a tribute in it's 'basic' plotline, events, and characters, but where it gets quite complex are the monsters themselves, I'm writing a whole entire biology on each species even to keep them consistent and detailed. If you wanna know more, You can PM me sometime, as for the most part I'm still gathering some ideas before the first drafts.

Here is a new story. It's based on true events that have happened to my family, on my fathers side. I don't really need to go into a family history, but he has a lot of kids that are only half blood relationship because he has been divorced from my mother most of my life. That's all you guys really need to know.

Just a little background information that I had a hard time fully squeezing out in the story: It is called 'vortex' because my father believes that the canyon area is a vortex, a 'vortex' is a spot where the laws of time, gravity, physics and nature do not apply. Often times, when a vortex is discovered, people make money off of them by bringing people in as tourist attractions. They are often called 'mystery spots,' appropriately as well, as no one knows what causes them. (In one of my favourite PC games of all time, Sam & Max hit the road, they discover that it's all a series of huge underground magnets :P). This story is based entirely on fact. The only changes that have been made are chronological changes as some of the events I was not there for, and only heard retold by my father, and some changes have been made to my fathers 'colourful' vocabulary. It is up to the reader to decide whether or not they believe in the supernatural and extraterrestrial. If you do not, well, enjoy it as a nice little short story :).
Nissyen is pronounced 'Ness-jyun,' and yes, that is his real name. My mothers name is Chelly, and many people pronounce it 'Shelly' but that is not right either, the C is right where it should be :)
If people are interested in seeing them, someday I may show the pictures I took from the vacation.

[blockquote]Vortex By Kadath Bird; Based upon true events

My mum, my brother Nissyen, and I all sat in a dirty Toyota Rav 4. Desert scenery passed by as we drove through Nevada. My mum was listening to a book on tape, it was a murder mystery. The scenery, coupled with the tape, gave me an odd chill and reminded me of the Doors song, 'Riders on the storm. Riders on the storm. There's a killer on the road. His brain is squirmin' like a toad. If you give this man a ride, sweet memory will die! Killer on the road.' I had my laptop plugged into a special adapter, which in turn plugged into the cigarette lighter. I was listening to Japanese music and playing Starcraft. We stopped in a few places, ate some steak while mum played on the slots, until we finally reached our destination of Carson city. We had come here to visit my father, who had came here to take care of my grandmother, whose husband had recently died. We scouted out a motel, and then drove to his place.

When we arrived, he instantly asked me if we had brought any cameras. We had indeed brought cameras, 3. A small digital camera, a bulky camcorder and then a slightly more compact digital camcorder. He told me about the canyon behind grandmas house. He took me into the backyard, which was filled with sand, nothing but a giant sandbox with dangerous tools instead of toys. I stepped carefully to avoid stepping on hammers and screwdrivers as he led me to the fence. "You see those lights down there, boy? That's how we'll find our way back home. Those lights are the whorehouses." I gave him an awkward glance but trusted him. He then pointed over to the canyon, and more specifically, the mountain behind it. "You see that mountain? You see any lights on it? Any houses, anything?" I squinted to see it in the dark with my poor eyes. There were no houses, no lights. It was completely empty. "No, there's nothing up there." I said. "Exactly! Yet whenever we start walking out into that canyon, these lights slowly appear, and then they blare up like friggen' stadium lights! And then when you walk out of the canyon, you see nothing." That night I was too tired to go out hiking with them, they pestered me about it, but I got to the hotel and rested up for the next day.

In the morning, we switched motels, because the motel we first picked had a lack of internet and a hot tub. After checking in, we went to a Denny's and had breakfast before heading to my fathers. When we got there, my youngest brother who could speak, Carson, screamed at us when we opened the door. He slammed it shut, and then made sure all the other doors were closed tight. I just noticed then too that all the curtains were closed. "What's with him?" I asked my father. "He's scared out of his mind, so is Britney." Britney was my oldest sister, 8 years old. I could understand Carson being scared, but not Britney. "You see boy, last night they saw something out of their windows and now they can't have the windows or doors open. Carson says he saw a dragon, who told him that he was going to come and eat us. Now Britney, she says she saw a scarecrow, who told her that he was watching her." I laughed a little bit, seeing it more as a boogeyman type presence than a true haunting. The day past busily, till finally night came and we prepared to enter the Canyon. None of our cameras were charged, so we borrowed theirs, and set out with my dad and my brothers Nissyen and Nathan.

As we entered the Canyon, I could already feel chills. Down the path we took shadows bent despite a total lack of moonlight, and every time I looked back, a pair of eyes looked intently back upon me. The trail led through many walled passages, tunnels without ceilings, where I could see people in front of us flee as we came closer. People of shadow. But when we passed them, I could feel them follow us and breathe upon our neck. The walls finally stopped, and we came to an area with no walls. There was a drop, and in that drop was a literal graveyard of cars and salvaged parts. I wondered how they had gotten there. And then a bright light blinded me, I looked into the skyline and up at the mountains, and saw several odd lemon-yellow lights on the mountains, attached to nothing. I pulled out the camera and took a picture. We moved on, and the lights grew slowly brighter, till eventually they just.. snuffed out. We ventured into the canyon until a point where my brother, Nissyen, became scared. I was nervous. I felt a million eyes upon me, I snapped back and took a picture. I could feel a strange sensation in my head and stomach, as if time had lurched forward. My dad wanted us to venture further, but he then noticed a car in the far off distance. It wasn't federal, and it wasn't moving. He told us to go back to the home, quietly and slowly. When we began to move, the car moved, at the same speed as us. We picked a faster pace, and the car took to it. We stopped, and dad looked back at the car, which had just stopped. We had neared the edge of the canyon, and we exited, beating the car out.

The next morning, I slept in, but my mum and Nissyen had stopped by dads for a bit. They picked up prints of the photos I had taken. The photo of the mountain lights was blank. Completely blank. The other photos I took, were filled with floating orbs huge and unseen by my eye when I took them. One was red, and it gave me chills. When we went to their house that day, another strange event had begun at their home. The walls were covered in red dots that had spontaneously erupted. They came off easily, but smeared sometimes. When collided together, they became dark, like blood. The walls were bleeding. Not your, Amity-ville horror style gushing blood that drips and pours, but just spots of it. They grew back hour upon hour, even after washing. There was a huge one in the washroom that bothered me the most. That night, we did not go out to the canyon, I let my cameras charge.

The next night, however, we did go back to the canyon. This time my mother came with us. We took a different, higher path. This path bothered me even more than the last. No shadowmen, but whispers. My mum held the digital camera while I filmed the area in nightvision. My mum noticed something flying by in the sky, too fast to be a plane, too small and oddly coloured to be a comet or other meteorological event. She took a picture of it, and then a small 'boom' erupted and the sky was filled with a purple flash. We ventured deeper into the canyon, deeper than apparently my father had ever gone before. He believed we were getting close to the vortex. I noticed strange distortions, and eventually, even though it's battery meter was full, my camera ran out of power. My mums still worked, and she was taking pictures still. I became light headed. My father pointed out a strange field in front of us. As we came closer, it was a huge, vast field of fungus and insects. He poked one of them with his walking stick, and it burst and he said nervously, "All right, time to go!" and we hiked back.

When we looked at the photos on our camera, my mum did not get a picture of the thing in the sky, but only the purple flash. Several other photographs revealed thousands of orbs floating in the canyon, above our heads and around us. There is even one photograph of me and my brother sitting in the living room, and in the window outside, is a huge orb and on top of it are a pair of red dots. One photograph, appears to be nothing but black, but upon closer inspection, a brown skull can be seen. Ever since that second night in the canyon, stranger things happened at the house, such as my dads 3 computers turning on in quick succession, whispers, shadowmen, and other strange phenomena. Another mystery has presented itself, because the military has shown interest in the canyon, and every night they do 'training runs' with fully armed apache helicopters and chinhooks. Why would they be fully armed? What is out there that could be dangerous that the military wants to find? Consider everything that has happened with an open mind.[/blockquote]

I WANT TO SEE THE PICS

[quote1205425822=Blazing Heat =FL=]
Wow...that new story is amazing :) Thank god I have a cat to protect me :P <3
[/quote1205425822]

Rofl, I have 11...

As to posting the pictures, I can't while I'm in the hospital (Imageshack takes 60 minutes to load a 30 x 30 image, and the Carson City photos are like 5 megs each) I will when I get back home.

As to getting on steam, Thor, Steam is blocked on the hospitals network cause of it's constant updating, so you're gonna have to wait too :(

I have a dog protecting me (roar) a chihuahua who "closely" won a cat in a fight. -.-

[quote1205476898=Blazing Heat =FL=]
Cats are awesome!
[/quote1205476898]

Indeed. I actually remember hearing that the domestic house cat actually kills more animals than any of the big cats, and often times just for fun, not for food %-6 That actually creeps me out.

In more related matters, I've gotten annoyed with having to write 5-6 page chapters for 'Forgotten Hollows,' so while I will still publish these skimmed down chapters (Chapter 3 progress is finally moving!) online for you, and anyone else who hasn't spoken up yet, to read, but when I finish it and have a good track down, I'm going to refine it and expand it where I want expansion, regular 15-25 page chapters and not the Summary style 5 pagers, and I'm thinking about maybe adding this, a proper introduction from me and Lukas, and an appendix with added info about the universe (Such as the biology and history of the creatures, short stories that take place in Eiser before everyone in it is wiped out, while the main characters survive in the forest, etc. etc.)

Also, before that, to get me rolling, I am collecting all my short stories from this thread (Save for Vortex) into a fairly slim, but workable book and publishing it online. Once it's published, I will let you guys know, please support my writing by buying these!
EDIT: It's out! [link=http://www.lulu.com/content/2200362] Buy it here![/link] I hope the price doesn't seem steep, but it was the only way to get revenue over the cost per unit %-6 Place your orders, folks! If you don't want the real paperback edition, a download is cheaper if you go to my storefront by clicking my name.

Expect a new story soon! :)

Then it's off to work for Chapter 3.

I wish I had money :( If you ever get it published in Finland, I'd love to buy it..just not happy with overseas shipment...never received a shirt I ordered...

Unfortunately, I can't get it specifically published in Finland. I do not have a distribution package, which would mean you would see this in retail stores with it's own ISBN and such. What I have now is just the basic free package, where you publish it online, people buy it, and once 20 bucks or more is racked up they send me a check. It also has paypal, but my Grandma will never let them get ahold of her credit cards ever again, and even though I have a bank account, she will NEVER let me use her or my bank cards on it especially. So I guess checks are the way to go for me, hopefully they aren't rubber :P

Apparently Paperbacks do ship faster than hardbacks, so that's a bonus. Apparently they don't count the time it takes to manufacture the copy, but it shouldn't take them too long. Digital downloading is an option too, if you absolutely won't order the physical because of shipping issues. It's also cheaper than the physical, of course.

Here is what they say about international orders:
