TF2 technical assistance

Basically, I've been interested in TF2 for a while now. I won Fluxion's contest ( THANKS AGAIN! ), and received TF2. I downloaded it, and met the requirements (when I go to Video Setting > Advanced, it says the recommendation for my system is on HIGH).

When playing, I get insane lag which I can't seem to get away, windowed mode, lower settings, anything. Is there anything I can do to play TF2 or is it a lost cause?

Those requirements are really really old, the updates have pretty much doubled them. So no, your computer doesn't meet the requirements and will continue to lag.

i play GTA SA:MP, and CS:S, and sometimes I pick up WoW for a month or two. never ran into any problems besides now, so i might upgrade. any suggestions for upgrades?

TF2 is a very CPU intensive game. Far more than people realize. It relies less on GPU power than on CPU strength. People who play BC2 or CoD just fine often complain of lag in TF2.

As CutChem!st said, the specs you're using from System Requirements lab were probably applicable five years ago when the game came out. After 5 GB's of updates and patches, the requirements have changed significantly.

A glance at Valve's hardware survey show your PC is on the low end of the bell curve.

I'm surprised the AMD CPU number isn't higher.

We did a recent survey so it should be updated soon. Because, I'm sure more than 5% of people are using DX11 cards now.

You can't upgrade that. It's far too old. You'd have to buy/build a new computer.
