I'd like to first say that I appreciate all the admins/advisers do for our division. But some seem to have a large chip on their shoulder and enjoy flaunting their power a little too much. Quite a few times on Vent I have heard someone question, for example(and this is only a fictional example)

eGO Member : Do we consider this an exploit?
eGO Admin : Yes get off or be kicked!
eGO Member: Ok, ok I'm off...why is that an exploit, seems easy enough to get there?
eGO Admin : Because I said so! Don't do it again or you will be kicked!

Wouldn't it have been better just to explain why we consider it an exploit or maybe let the member know that you're not sure and provide the name of an admin that may be able to help?
I don't want to give any specific examples so I don't draw unwanted attention to members or admins. Would simply like to see a little more respect given when someone questions a rule(in a tactful manner ofcourse, not "That rule sucks!!") or suggests a new rule or regulation. I also hate to see a member get kicked from vent for discussing something an admin doesn't want to hear. There are other channels if you don't want to hear / discuss the current topic.
I again would like to stress that I totally respect what our admins and advisers do. I quite a few times have asked for an admin in a specific server through vent and had them come over almost immediately to help me resolve issues that are beyond my control(I'm not an admin) I am not trying to whine and I really don't want to make enemies out of anyone in the division or the clan as a whole. Especially those in charge :crying: Just looking out for the best interests of eGO.

Nicely written and worded post.

If you have an issue with a certain advisor or DL, I recommend you conference with your division leader ASAP. Im sure they will be happy to talk to and accommodate you within their means.

That's my suggestion for now.

I do not, I have always been treated with respect from all the eGO members/admin. It's the treatment of other members that inspired this post :) Meant more to be something for our admins to think about next time they start to lose their patience or become frustrated with a member.

Ahh okay, I understand now. I think patience and not jumping the gun is something we should all do, even e's.

The problem with explaining things to public members is that when you try and explain things to them it provides more material for arguments to be started. I often just use a response such as, "If you have a problem with our rules please visit edgegamers.org and post in our Suggestion Box. Thank you."

That's one thing I see admins doing wrong too, and since we don't really have our own admin school for our bc2 admins, they don't really know about "how" to admin.

For example, when admining never give an ultimatum. Don't just say "Get off or be kicked!" Instead say "Please stay off of (position x) because it is considered an exploit. Thank you." And if you have to warn them again you can kick them. Its part of the professionalism that we must abide by and agreed to when we signed off on the admin sign off list. If your having problems like these just take a brief glance over those things that you agreed to do when you signed off for admin.

And as altec said, refer them to the forums if they have an issue that they want to bring up to our leadership.

I completely agree soldier, no one should be acting that way. It shows immaturity and lack of respect for the PRIVILEGE that EdgeGamers has given to them, but until someone steps up and tells leadership the who/what/where/when theres little we can do. We cannot be omniscient and be everywhere at once, we rely on our members to come to us when theres an issue.

People all the time say theres an issue with admins doing X or members doing Y but no one will ever fess up and tell us the details. The vast majority of eGO members are polite and personable when dealing with in-game issues but theres always those few who dont get it and give eGO a bad name. A large misconception is that eG and eGO members are some how better than others, eG and eGO have been picked for a JOB. Its your job to admin, if you dont want to deal with that responsibility and do your JOB then you can be an =(e)= where your have all the benefits of being a member with no responsibility. If no one wants to put in a drop box complaint or talk to leadership about a specific issue theres little that can be done to correct the situation at hand.

It's always a tricky thing, especially since it's so easy just to fall back on our (using "our" in a broad, human sense) authority instead of working through a potentially time-consuming issue. I agree with Cub4n's assessment that perhaps an "admin school" could be beneficial. At least in this case, everybody knows that the admins are all on the same page about rules and enforcement which would probably lead to less tensions among members. Ultimately, I think we all agree that unity and cooperation is something that we want eGO to be known for. Good post, soldier!

This builds off the larger concept that all of us, admin or not, represent the community. The objective is to create a place where people can enjoy themselves and play games without hassle, harassment, and trolling as long as they are willing to follow the rules. By simply being polite and helpful we all do our part. Admins are held to a higher standard, and rightly so.

It's a lot easier to be brief and snappy when trying to enforce the rules, but players certainly will respect/listen to an admin who is kind but authoritative rather than one who is snide. Good food for thought.

Well Admining on bc2 and sometimes just playing bc2 can get pretty frustrating. I can understand why a admin might get angry explaining the rules over and over again, then having to explain the rules to a member. An important thing is to keep your cool.

I find that trying to explain the reasoning behind the rules mid-game does a few things:

1. Distracts me and whomever I'm explaining to away from the game and focuses us on this verbal argument that will go nowhere
2. Provides the opportunity for other people to butt in with their own opinions and add more fuel to the fire
3. Creates more tension than is needed

I'll admit, I have done this before, but not to another eGO member. I've often said to a pub "You do it because I'm an admin and you follow our rules here. If you don't like it, you can leave." If I have ever said this in Vent, I'm sorry and it was probably an isolated incident, if it has ever happened at all.

If you ever think you are having this problem with an admin, don't be afraid to send noxx_, Music, or Duality a PM about it.

Yeah I don't really see much problem with being a little more firm with a pub, since they usually seem to escalate the situation (saw this many times last night with pubs fighting incessantly with Kerak). I would imagine the only time more tact would be in order is with fellow members.

Yeah, pub fights can get out of hand VERY quick. Just remember, best way to deal with them is with 'Calm Assertive Energy' :P

I agree completely Soldier.

and like Vudu said, warn but never threaten. Rules to live by.
