Care to tell me how to do it the right way?

Well I was mostly kidding because people's playing styles vary and what they enjoy in a game differs. I don't care about stats at all, but generally can't play for very long without some friends on. I was going to just say "don't care about stats and have fun" but for some people, caring about stats is fun. Either way, good luck.

I try not to care about stats, but not doing good bugs the crap out of me

You could start learning to use photoshop (if you dont already) or Gimp. Making avatars, signatures, wallpapers or editing photos. There is loads of information on the forums, and inspiration in the artwork section. Theres also lots of tutorials out there. It's fun.

Entering signature of the week is pretty good aswell

You could also starting Mapping, thats pretty fun. You could make a new TF2 map or something. Again there is information on mapping in the Mappers section of the forums, and tutorials on the web. Or making skins, but you might want to get your head around Photoshop or GIMP first.

Im assuming you havent tried or know how to do these things yet, I'm sorry if you do, they are just suggestions.
