Ouch, this chart made me ashamed to be an American

This chart compares figures in the population of OECD countries (plus the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Mexico); it shows the percentage of total population (aged 15 and above) with a body mass index greater than 30. The year the figures used for this chart were published, collected or compiled range from 1996 to 2003. Exact years for each country can be found in the documents linked below.

And a more current, scary list.

Ouch - but I'm not too surprised.

At least I'm only 50% American (my mom is from Denmark, my dad is American -- I'm a citizen of both countries. w00t)

That's cool do you speak any danish at all?

I speak a little - but I would definitely say that I'm better at hearing Danish and understanding it than I am at speaking it. Although, I should try to learn to speak it, it shouldn't be too hard for me.

I'd say that my ability to hear and interpret Danish is very good (my mom and grandmother, when she visits, always speak Danish to each other, and it's been that way since I was born - so I'm used to hearing it spoken).

You see, what happened is that we ate all the fat japanese people, slimming Japan and fattening us. Brilliant, I must say.

The UK is fatter than I thought.

I figured we would be up to 50% by now.

Stupid McDonalds.

Well gotta say that this chart is a lil old (2003 is over 5 years ago). The following site is a more up to date list of the fattest counties, including other countries that were posted from that old chart: http://www.forbes.com/2007/02/07/worlds-fattest-countries-forbeslife-cx_ls_0208worldfat_2.html

Also, for us Americans, heres a lil slideshow of the growth of bmi index from late 80's til last year: http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/trends.html

My parents are along w/ the chart when it comes to that issue. Thats why my sis & I are doing our best to stay as in shape as possible. My sister works for a fitness center & I take tae kwon do. Hey, every little bit helps us.

:O Nauru %94 *faints*

HOLY CRAP! WE'RE %75!

Also, posted the forbes list in the OP.

YES WE DID IT *high fives*

Lol, indeed Baen, indeed. We are victorious!

In all seriousness it is frightening, the types of food allot of people are consuming and the quantities are grossly over proportioned. Also, don't get me started on the usage of HFCS "high fructose corn syrup" in this country, prob the fastest way to type 2 diabetes.
