Ok as alot of you know and have posted in Rawrcoons' thread about getting a six pack. Im not looking for just a six pack. I want to get into better shape all around. Everytime I go to play football with friends I find myself breathing hard after 4 or 5 plays. I know for a fact that i need to build up my stamina because I can run fast when i want to, but not for an extended period of time.

Im 6 foot 3
140 lbs last time i checked.
17 years old.

20 lbs. underweight if I remember correctly.

I'd like to get in better shape but also have some tone that way I actually look good when I go out swimming. Any Ideas for a good workout routine that I can start?

I already have a huge jug of protein powder that I can use to recover from working out. Just need a routine and the ability to stick to the routine.

Been drinking a crap load of water the passed few weeks too. Just how much you may ask?

All of those are 24 fl. oz, except two of those are 20 fl. oz. Been refilling them with water and drinking 2 to 3, sometimes 4 of those a day.

The first thing to getting fit is being able to get fit.

Start with running. Run 5 minutes or so, then walk one.

Every 3-5 days, add a minute on.

6 mins run, 1 walk
7 mins run, 1 walk

I kept increasing up to 25 minutes, even skipping from 10-17. It gets your heart in fantastic shape, enabling you to work on muscle type stuff

Hmm, five minutes seems a bit low for starting off. Could I increase it if i still feel that I can go on?

Start at whatever number your good with. You could start at 1, 10, or 20, start at whoever you want

Go run everyday at your local park or something. Run more and more everyday. Go from 1 mile, to 2 miles, to 3 miles, etc. etc. That is for cardio.

Go to the gym and talk to one of the trainers there and they can give you a sheet to show you what the good workouts are.

It is what I do. Works very well. :)

I learned from my trainer that you need a good core in order to train everything else more effectively. Just my 2 cents.

6'3 and 140 lbs????

that's probably why you get tired..the wind is blowing you down!

The military has a PT guide, you can pick one up at any recruiting station, they show you how to tone the bodies muscles with out the use of weights, which is pretty damn nifty.

thats what im doin and its working wonders bro.

I'm probably going to be walking 1-2 miles every day. Start off doing that and after like a month or two start running a mile or two at a time and just keep increasing the distance you go. Make sure you eat good (not too much pasta, fast food or processed foods).

I can't really help ya much. I'm out of shape as well.

Off to take a shower and take my dog for a walk.

As Capt'n said, a good core is indeed the way to success.

For general training, a couple of good rules:
Getting sick does not allow you to skip your training. If you're too sick to run intervals, stay inside and do Sgt. Jumps, Chinnies, or otherwise.
The temperature getting lower does not allow you to skip your training. A few (30-60) minutes of jump roping can replace running.
You having a bad hair day does not get you out of training. You don't need to look good when you work out, you'll be laughing when you're ripped anyhow.
Start today. Everyone always want to start on Mondays. To hell with Mondays, start Today!
Never skip a training. This will lead to you skipping more and more until you're not doing it anymore.
Avoid training in front of a mirror. Yes, you will look stupid, let's no care about that while you work out.
There's no miracle training program, pills, or diet. It all comes from hard work, as terrible as it sounds.
Don't take the easy way out. There's a lot of guys looking ripped, but lack the soul of a warrior. Truth be told, if you'd poke them with the tip of a leaf, they'd fall over.

And lastly, your motivation controls to what limit you can push yourself.
You only have one go with life, so make the most of it.

I'm bumping this cause I need to get in better shape too

Ill tell you what I did yesterday and what im going to be doing for the next three workout sessions if you want.

Yesterday I did as many push ups as I could until my arms gave out (I took short breaks that way I didnt end up feeling like i was going to die)

Today is a rest day and recovery day.

Tomorrow I will follow this table right here.

http://hundredpushups.com/week3.html

You follow the table based on how many you were able to do before your arms gave out.

After that day, rest.

Then do the Day 2 part of that table.

Complete the table then go to week 4 which you can find here.

It might help you to recover and build up faster if you get some Whey Protein. You mix this with milk and make a protein shake. The protein will help to rebuild your muscles faster and bigger during the rest days.

Today I noticed my shoulders, arms, chest, and abs all had a bit of an ache to them. Not a bad one but a good one. I must say, it feels good to have that ache and know that im actually following a workout routine now.
