I tried to play a demo by console.

It executed, ans tried to launch something then I get the following problem
errorcz7.jpg

I know its Dutch but that shouldnt withhold the real techs from getting the info they need, and if I need to add information please ask and I will.

(I already invested quite some time trying to solve this by google without luck:( )

let me guass what that says in english

The instruction at location x attempted to refference memory at location y. The memory cannot be read.
Click OK to terminate the program.

Was I close?

you could try to get an outside player to open it or something. I'm not really sure what to say because in all honesty these types of error messages require understanding of the two things being used in this case the source engine, and the demo file.

these messages usually indicate a program not working correctly to the programmer, sometimes thought its not the program but what your trying to do. I'm unsure what to do without seeing the code hehe.

I already feared it wouldnt be so easy to solve...

What kind of outside player will be able to play these DoD source demo files?

At first, i wonder if the demo was taken with settings above your limits, but then again i'm pretty sure that demos are actually just screenshots played really fast not re rendering so I dont know hwy that would happen to you. I never use outside programs because I havnt had that problem but i have seen others mention it before.

:( If I dont respond to a thread i feel bad, but thenit also looks like i am ignoring it. If i posted less i wouldnt be expected to solve everyones problems.

I was kinda hoping on someone else to save the day. (no offence)

I already asumed that, since you already posted and showed interest in my problem, you read my follow up posts aswell..(Which I thank you for)

I still havent gotten it to work but I'll keep trying.. somehow

I think I may be able to crack the case.

Where were you opening it from? Did you create a desktop shortcut and open it from there? IT is possible the desktop icon was mis-created. I've gotten something similar to that myself with bad shortcuts.

Also, what is your resolution? Some games have trouble reading resolution, and may think yours is higher then normal. If that is the case, it will surely crash.

I would liek to knwo how to open demos by creating shortcuts - i mean, unless you are talking about using command line arguments on the shortcut after creation because that hardly counts.

I dont knwo if your frustrate me or entertainme yet. What do you mean by "the game may think your resolution is higher than normal and will surely crash".

When he tries to run the application, it crashes, correct? One thing I had assumes was a possible failure in the Desktop Shortcut, assuming he is opening from either that or the steam shortcut.

Sorry if I confused you. I had the same problem, it was caused by Source SDK automatically assuming that I had a higher resolution than 1024x768. I fixed it by adding "-height 1024 -width 768" to the launch options. (Fire, replace with your resolution)

The problem is not an application, DOD:S opens fine his questions is about replaying a game demo that was recorded by someone to be played back at a later time.

It has nothing to do with opening the game, the game opens fine - once in the game you sue the console to open the demo and he gets the error.

if a game tried to open in the wrong resolution your monitor would give a unusable signal detected error and the game would run in the background.

Ah, I was unaware there was a replay system in the demo, unless he means recorded by something like Fraps.

Being a user of a few Video Recording programs (for my beloved 80 youtube fans), I have encountered my series of errors along the way. I think it could be due to the recorder itself, if it is a seperate recorder. Certain recorders (such as Camtasia) require them to be saved in a particular way in order for them to be look-atable without the original recordings, files etc.
So possibly your just missing information that you wouldn't be able to get (considering it was at a later date).

Thats about all I can think of really, other then that I too am at a loss, but will continue to see if I can figure it out for you.

LOL i see what the problem is now. He isnt using a DEMO of the game. haha he has the full game - there is no demo.

The game has a built in recording feature that makes videos of your screen (like fraps) but in half life they are called "demos".

then you can open the game later and watch the demo. Think of demo as another name for replay.
