Hey... Was looking around newegg for things to waste my cash on and came across the EVGA 460 FTW. Dude. This thing has an 850 core clock. Should give it some nice headroom to break 900 easily, maybe even looking at 950. Now im getting confused, I can pickup the Palit SP for $218, or the ECS Black once it is released. EVGA cant fail but i would love to see some site/user reviews on this card as i cannot find any at the moment.

Anybody who comes across something useful please post and let me know your take on it.
 
Bad cooling ftw? It's barely better than stock. Why not get a 460 with an aftermarket cooler? And one with voltage tweaking, so you can hit 1ghz core?
 
A 460 would be an awesome upgrade for you (460s are so nice in price/performance), but yeah don't get the FTW model. You'll be much happier with one with aftermarket and hit a much higher clock.

The misinformation in the responses on this thread is amazing. It is not the reference cooler. It is EVGA's external exhaust cooler. It cools the memory as well as the core. The FTW version also has VRM sinks.

That being said, I do not recommend getting it. It is not worth the extra cost and the cooler is too loud and doesn't perform as well. The only time I would get the EE version would be if there is terrible airflow in the case and you can't add fans, or maybe in an SLi setup where the cards are immediately next to each other.

they make both. One with the EE cooler (which is WORSE than the stock cooler), and one with the stock cooler.

I don't find a small chunk of aluminum worth $30

you can buy VRM heatsinks for $11

Oh yeah I forgot they added the non EE one. And it is not worse. It is case by case. Some people get cooler temps with the EE, most don't, however that doesn't negate the fact that in some situations people are better off with the EE. Also, there is obviously some quality control issues with the EE. I've heard 3 of them, 1 was almost silent all the way up to 70% and the other 2 were obnoxious at 45%. If I could guarantee I would get a silent one I would definitely get the EE version.
 
Thanks a mill everyone for the responses. May end up with the Palit Sonic Platinum / Gainward GLH . Both are almost identical just the fan on the the Gainward is a deeper red which im going for all around. Now i seen the ECS Black and that may be the one, only trouble is its a 3 slot cooler which would mean replacing my mobo when i SLI in the future ( you have prolly seen the thread on the Formula III ) . The Real nice thing about the ECS is the heatsink covers everything including the VRM's.

Time for the 260 to go even though it still does very good with everything i play. Most sites come up with different OC's on different cards obviously, as long as it cools well and clocks close to 900, im good. Oh yeah, it cant be ugly.

Another thing, once actual reviews of the FTW are out we will know how well it will clock and cool. My case flow is just beautiful but am considering an HAF X as well when i go SLI.

Something strange i would also like to mention, i had hooked up my 8800 GTS in my rig for folding and it actually slows the 260 down. I've done everything from swapping slots to using different drivers and adjusting any setting i could. Pulled the 8800 out and all is well. To give you an idea, in TF2 i keep a constant sync of 60fps without the 8800 installed. With it, i was seeing drops to 45fps. MW2 would also drop my frames from 100+/- to as low as 20. Whats going on there ? Never encountered this before.

Drop me some hints guys. BRB
 
So you're retiring your 260? I can has it? :D

The only good thing about the Palit, is that it has G92 mounting holes, but the stock cooler sucks, so you'd need to replace it.

So you were sling a 8800 and a 260? I'm pretty sure if one can't keep up with to other, they meet in the middle on performance. That's why you don't see a ton of people just throw in their old card too, it's not like a little extra boost in performance.
 
NOT SLI. Just both cards installed, keep the 8800 folding 24/7 and for physx while not folding, though it would hardly make a difference.

I'm pretty(like 99%) sure you CAN'T sli cards with different chips. But I know plenty of people running different cards just to fold with no performance hit...i can't explain that. My guess is either a driver issue or the motherboard having to run x8(which would be a performance hit if it isn't PCIe 2.0) or something when a second card is installed.

Nope, unless you have A Lucid Hydra chip on your motherboard, then you can have a 480 with a 5870! :D

Yeah, I shouldn't have put SLI (was just thinking of having two cards, bad choice of words), I get what he was doing but I was wondering if there was just some interferences when you have two cards running. I wasn't talking about true sli, just having two cards in.

I was sure running 2 slots is always 16x 16x on all x58 chips. Could it be running 8x 8x with both cards installed? I cant find any info regarding this.

I highly doubt it. I haven't looked at the ECS Black, and I doubt I will. I have an ECS product, and I hate it (for overclocking). It just sucks at it.
Like I said earlier, you're probably going to have to pick up a new GPU cooler, the stock for the Palit's suck. But they have G92 mounting holes, so you can use a lot of good coolers.
 
I would rather get a GTX 460 from a reputable brand (eVGA, ASUS, etc.) and put my own AC TwinTurbo Pro on it. (then you would have the EXACT same card as the ECS BE)
