I plan on buying a new HD soon.

Looking for atleast 1TB or so. Please help me out.

Nate, don't get a Seagate. My PS3 has a Seagate and it has terrible reliability. Trust me, reflex is right

Weird. I have a external HD from Seagate, and it works great.

Here is my 2cents based on 12 years in IT:

Samsung: Pretty good reliability, but they seem to slow down over time. I can't explain it.
Seagate: When they go, they go FAST. Not much warning if any and then DEAD.
Fujitsu: I've had no good experiences with them at all.
WD: The best. The black series is awesome and they rarely fail. When they do, I've always had plenty of time to get the data off.

For a little more you can get a 64MB cache, SATA 6GB ready and two procs on the controller with a 5 year warranty. Check this out.

For a little more you can get a 64MB cache, SATA 6GB ready and two procs on the controller with a 5 year warranty. Check this out.

um maybe 12 years ago, but now Samsung is the top. They have excellent reliablity, and are the fastest non-ssd (raptors dont count) on the market.

WD are now the slowest you can buy. And segate hasn't got their act together ever since the 7200.11 issue

I didn't say anything about speed, I was just referring to my experiences with reliability.
And I didn't say Samsung was unreliable, they just seem to slow down over time, but I have no measurements to back that up.

I meant go as in go bad. Sorry for the wording. I thought the second sentence would give a context cue as to the slang I chose.
As for the Samsung, I wasn't really commenting on it's speed, I was saying more in the reliability sense. Part of something's reliability is consistency of operation, not just if it fails, so I chose to mention that.

My friend has a Seagate 7200.12 1TB, but I don't know the actual speeds. It's fast, though.
And reflex, .12 is good. 7200.11 you need to stay away from, though.

Yeah. But I'm just saying, if the 7200.12 is the cheaper option (which right now it is not), then don't feel like you're skimping out.
But I say go for the F3. You will not be disappointed.
