Hey guys im starting to play eGO TF2 on Black mesa a little bit

And even 2fort

And im doing bad as a spy -_-...

Any of you good spy players got any good tips?

Do what I do.

Darth's Rule #1 - Be awesome just like me.

Try searching. There have been several spy threads recently.

I've never figured out how to use the forums search. Every time I search for a term (e.g. 'spy, 'HUD') I get no results returned. But I can search for a forum users name and get lots of results. :confused1::facewall:

However, using google I did find this spy-related thread:

... fyi, I used this search to find it (minues quotes): "spy tips site:edgegamers.org"

Spy is a more difficult class imo, just dont get frustrated and try to notice what other spies are doing while you play thats what I did.

Learning to play spy is easy, learning to play spy well is a different story. It takes a lot practice and while practicing use all 3 watches and stick with what works best for you. If you are looking for specific tips and tricks those are not so easy to come by, I would suggest watching spy vids (like mine :P click my sig)and downloading the Tr_walkway map to practice stair stabs and such.

Learn whether or not you prefer dead ringer over cloak and dagger. Some people just aren't dead ringer people, me being one of those people.

If you notice yourself being more aggressive with the spy instead of patiently waiting for your prey to expose themselves use the Dead Ringer. Its good for quickly getting a kill or two on a group of enemies and then escape from the remaining enemies with the Dead Ringer. Don't try to uncloak with the DR right behind an enemy, It has a really loud and distinctive decloak sound and if anyone hears this behind them It always throws them on full alert for spies.

If your a more campy sort of spy the use the Cloak and Dagger, you can sit there and wait without too much worry about being caught.

If you do a bit of both then go with the InvisiWatch. It has a good amount of cloak and can get you surprisingly far on a full charge.

Trust in your Revolver. That thing can prove very handy in a tight situation. Does about 30 to 40 damage close range and takes most classes out in 3 to 4 hits depending on their health. Once I pulled the revolver out more I noticed I racked alot more kills that I normally would have as a spy. If you want proof of how handy it can be, you can look at my rank on the Leaderboards. Its currently at about 270. Before I played Dead Ringer Spy and used my revolver I was in the high 800's. About 22 hours of gameplay with the spy propelled me up a crazy amount. I passed about 600 other people in a matter of a day of playtime.

In the end, just muck around with the different watches and see which one works to your advantage and play style more.

Dont play on Mesa or 2fort. Epic spy guide right there.

Dont listen to anyone who says dont do this and dont do that, play where u like and use the watches that u like ;).

if i knew how this stupid DR works i might start likeing it :facewall:

Play where you want to play, although IMO Its a bit harder to learn spy on 2fort than most maps, since there aren't many open areas, and there aren't that many good hiding spots. Blackmesa on the other hand is the exact opposite, and is pretty easy to learn how to play spy, but some things that work well on mesa dont work well on other maps,

Also if learning where to hide is an issue, play other classes (Like pyro) and spy check a lot, if you kill a good spy (Say on mesa, like frisky) remember where he was, and steal his hiding spots. Killing the spy makes you a better spy. :D

Blackmesa is actually very linear. Everyone is moving in a general path in cramped spaces, the only exception is point A. You really have to know the map well, and the flow of people to understand what to do.

In stock maps, you have many options to flank and places where there isn't a lot of players that you can go through. Also, since blackmesa is fast respawn, it makes spying even harder since there is never any empty space to use.
