Spy tips pl0x!

Blackmesa is actually very linear. Everyone is moving in a general path in cramped spaces, the only exception is point A. You really have to know the map well, and the flow of people to understand what to do.

In stock maps, you have many options to flank and places where there isn't a lot of players that you can go through. Also, since blackmesa is fast respawn, it makes spying even harder since there is never any empty space to use.

I guess so, but if you do know the map like you said, its pretty easy. Even if it is linear there are plenty of bumps and stuff that you are able to stand on (That little crawl space to B or K, you can stand on top of it from the entrance.), Most spies usually hang around A, but it is a pretty easy map to spy on I think, or at least better than 2fort. But From all the eGO servers i think egypt is the easiest. :P

Its not really that linear. I used to hate playing Spy on Mesa because I though it was linear and too cramped. But in retrospect its pretty easy to learn spy. I usually hang over the areas that have the drop down to A or around the enemies spawn where the room is above their spawn. Its quite easy, you just have to be a bit more mobile and fast with everything on that map.

I would say to learn to play spy on diff maps, try not to judge how good/bad you are till you learn the valve maps first. Once you get better come to mesa and you will see you game play shoot up. My favorite maps were all on valve maps and thats where I first learned to play spy, I then put all I learned to good use on mesa. Imo the thing with mesa and what makes it a difficult map to spy on is cramped spaces, but if you learn to use those spaces to your advantage (like stair stabbing in the vents) a weakness then becomes an asset.

I personally am a terribad spy on Mesa, but I can do decent -> awesome on most Valvemaps, Mesa is too enclosed for my tactics I think. Anyway, yeah, play on various maps and click when you're behind people :) oh, and don't forget to disguise ;)

Anyway, Spy is one of the hardest classes to play well, for those not very experienced at TF2 I suggest picking a different class. The easiest for newbies to pick up IMO are Pyro, Soldier, Heavy. All three are cases of 'easy to play, hard to master', and avoid classes like Demoman, Sniper, and Spy.

Of course it is all personal preference, and you might pick up one of the classes I said to avoid really easily. In which case go for it. In the end, just do what you want and have fun, but some classes are generally a bit easier for a newbie to have fun with than others :)

Idk about Black Mesa, but on 2fort:

Cloak once you jump off your battlements and cross the bridge, being careful of running into the enemy team and pyros. Camp the base of the enemy base that is in front of the bridge until several enemies start crossing. Stab away. :)

If you want, I could play on 'mesa to teach you the fine art of bursting into flames...

All good posts, I say. Even Thereven's posts make sense if you think deep enough. Anyways, just keep a sound mind, heart, soul, and body. When I say that I mean stay calm. Every time I freak out as a Spy I die. So I stay calm and think of some cool music, and then I get my nice stabbing killstreaks. My old-as-dirt comp doesn't allow me to play Spy, or most classes, at all. So I avoid eGO servers until I can get a new comp.

one thing i know for sure, being disguised as an enemy dosen't fool 80% of players
acting like their teammate dosen't mean squat most of the time

rule #1 for me: don't wait around, act as if there is always a spy-checker(pyro) right around the corner
