EdgeGamers Organization Newsletter
October 2010 Edition

This month has been a very busy time for our community. A lot of changes within the communities leadership structure have happened, and we have to wonder if any of these will involve Mister Adam. We would like to start off with congratulations to our new Council members, Duality and Sloppie. They have worked hard and spent many hours at tasks for our community, and will continue their work at an even greater capacity. We are also saddened by some departures in leadership. All of our Divisions are excited to bring you all their latest news and events in this edition of the EdgeGamers Organization Newsletter.

Personnel Service Center (PSC)

The Personnel Service Center (PSC) recently underwent a major Leadership change. We’re all very proud of Sloppie’s recent promotion to Council. Sloppie has been a very strong leader in the PSC. He worked hard to help create the PSC, streamline the process of approving applications in a timely manner, and provide stats for all of our gaming divisions. Now he will represent us at the Council level, as well as being the Council In Charge of the Team Fortress 2 (TF2) Division. All of the members of the PSC would like to wish him the best in his new position. We would also like to congratulate Endiment on his transfer to Advisor for the Call of Duty (CoD) division. We would like to thank Endiment for his service and dedication as leadership for the PSC and we wish him well in the CoD Division.

World of Warcraft (WoW)

The World of Warcraft (WoW) Division is happy to tell you about some things that are happening with us. There are various points of interest regarding the Laughing Skull server, with both our Alliance and Horde guilds.

We are proud to announce that our Alliance guild is quickly growing back to full strength after a bit of a touchy time. All of our busy schedules are slowly starting to converge to a point where we can get together more often. The guild has started raiding together and has gotten so far as the ninth boss in IceCrown Citadel (ICC). As we are able to get more people into a raid we can progress even further in the ICC quest.

Starting October 1, our Alliance and Horde guilds will undergo a significant transformation. The Horde leveling and raiding guilds will be merging to form a single guild under the name "EdgeGamers". We are merging the guilds to prepare for the upcoming game expansion, Cataclysm.

Day of Defeat: Source (DoD:S)

Jeod Nicely graced us with some of his knowledge this time

He would like to congratulate everyone on the Day of Defeat: Source (DoD:S) 5 Year Anniversary for our Game!

We all know that we have been having map trials the past few months to determine the replacement for Colmar, and Argentan and Anzio were our top two maps voted for, but only one could prevail, and you might ask yourself which one is it, well your wait is finally over! Anzio is our winner and it is a one of a kind, Instant Respawn! It was slow to start but a handful of faithful DoD:S members have made it to the top 100 in just one month. Stop by to enjoy the new type of game and help make it #1 in DoD:S!

Team Fortress 2 (TF2)

Team Fortress 2 (TF2) would like to start off by saying thank you to A Nurse from Texas and ScrappyDoo for their dedicated work for the division, and are saddened by their departure. In their wake Sloppie has kindly agreed to step up to Council and take TF2 and Personnel Service Center (PSC) under his purview. We welcome him and have great expectations for the future of TF2 under his tutelage.

Next, we of the Fun Division tip our collective idled-for hats to the winners of the Team Fortress 2 (TF2) League Season Two. Congratulations Butterflies: rage, tracy, steph, muiramme, purplescented, star, anefi, noobina, and kaytee. If you don’t recognize those names it’s because they aren’t in eGO. The Butterflies are CEVO-ranked clan who decided this event was so much fun they had to be a part of it.

But that’s September’s news and it’s October now. Many of you may have noticed the recent update to the TF2 game. We are excited with the addition of a trading system to the game. This will finally allow players to acquire items they have long sought. There also has been an large addition of new items for players to strive for. In addition to the usual path for attaining these items, they can now be purchased at the Mann Co. store in game using steam dollars.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (BC2)

The Battlefield Bad Company 2 (BC2) division wishes to congratulate Duality for his promotion to Council. On Council, Duality will represent BC2 and the News/Web Dev Team. He also manages the Zazzle account, which can be found here http://www.zazzle.com/edgegamers. We also would like to say welcome and congratulations to Plug for becoming the latest Advisor for BC2.

BC2 is a relatively new to the EdgeGamers Organization (eGO) and has already establishing a distinctive character. The game, and the people it attracts, offers an intense gaming atmosphere, great in-game teamwork, and overall a great time in the game.

Call of Duty (CoD)

To allay everyone's fears, the Call of Duty (COD) Division is proud to announce it is in full support of Black Ops and its upcoming servers. COD Leadership is very excited about it, and invites everyone to feel the electricity from the enthusiasm that this game is generating. We can't wait to play this game with all the dedicated players out there, and hope to see a fruitful start to the game.

Black Ops is scheduled for release November 9th, 2010. The game, developed by Treyarch, will revolve around World War II and modern day military units. On top of this will be a wide range of customizations available in game that will make it a unique gaming experience. The System Requirements will be:

Processor: Core 2 Duo E4700 2.6GHz/Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5600+ or better
Graphics Card: GeForce 8800 GTS/Radeon X1900 Series or better

Modification Division (MOD)

The dust seems to have finally settled after the conversion from Insurgency (INS) to the Modification (MOD) Division, so things are fairly quiet around the halls of the MOD Division. Currently all of the MOD servers (minus the INS League server) hold a position in the top 10 server ranking for each modification that =(eGO)= supports (Insurgency, Resistance and Liberation (RnL), and Firearms: Source(FaS)). Who would have expected anything less than that from an EdgeGamers Organization server?

The Division is eagerly anticipating the next round of updates for all three mods that =(eGO)= supports. Our hopes are that both RnL and FaS will be added to the steampowered listing of official mods after these updates. This will enable everyone to find them much quicker than before.

Counter Strike: Source (CS:S)

The Counter-Strike Source (CS:S) Division event coordinators have been working with leadership to help make events better and more fun than they already are, and we have many great ones coming up! One of the newest events that we have added are the road trips to the Team Fortress 2 (TF2) and Day of Defeat: Source (DoD:S) servers. A road trip is when we ask any member of our Division who has another Divisions game to follow us into one of their servers to show them just how CS:S rolls! It is a lot of fun, and great to experience another game with all our friends from the CS:S Division. We have also added a soccer event to our lineup. This is all due to the success and popularity of the late night soccer matches.

The PSC handles all applications, and chances are you’ve talked to one of us. You can usually find us in the Recruiting Office channels in Ventrilo (Vent) if you ever need any help with applications or recruiting. Feel free to come and talk to us, where most of the time we’ll be playing our favorite games and just having a good laugh.

PSC members are the first line of contact for new members joining EdgeGamers Organization (eGO). We assist applicants in finding the necessary information they need to apply, and help them through the MAUL verification process. Our volunteers then review the applications of potential members with background checks to see if the applicant qualifies to become a member. If you have any Questions about the PSC or how to join, send a PM to Icestyle. Please note you must be an eG or eGO to join.

This October 3rd we hosted a TF2 Meet N Greet on the TF2 event server. You will want to keep an eye out for other PSC events coming to your division soon, such as future Meet N Greets. If you are looking to get to know other members in your division better or you just want to have a good time, jump in and join us during one of these. Also look out for events such as “e Orientation” and “How to Recruit” Seminars. Information such as dates and times for these events can be found in any acceptance post to a new member.

Our desire for doing this is to have our member play under the "Edge Gamers" name, as well as giving us access to a second full guild bank.

The division will be hosting recruiting events so that we can expand our ranks even further. On the raid front we hold raids for the weekly quests on Tuesday and/or Wednesday nights at 8pm EST. For those guild members still needing emblems, just join us and have some fun these nights. Friday nights are our ICC raid night, one of the hardest quests available in the latest expansion, Lich King. Meet us at 8 and 9 pm EST for the Horde and Alliance raids, respectively. All of the raids are listed on both the forum and ingame calendar. As always, join us in Ventrilo (Vent) and have fun gathering together with your guildmates on various quests and the like.

DoD:S October News

BL4SPH3MY

The eGO Day of Defeat: Source (DoD:S) division would like to recognize the 5 Year Anniversary of this great game!

We had map trials for the past few months to determine the replacement for Colmar. Argentan and Anzio were our top two maps voted for with Anzio taking the win. Add to that, Instant Respawn and the server is a hit! It had a slow start, but a handful of faithful DoD:S members have taken it to the top 100 in just one month. Stop by and help make it #1 in DoD:S!

In October look for Euro Realism in the Realism Tournament for all our Euro Based fans out there; don’t think that we have forgotten you! We will also be working on getting our DoD:S Royal Rumble going in the next few months. This is where members take on Leadership in an all out, Fist to Face, hour of game play. Only one can be the victor and take away bragging rights!

We have nightly events, which include Monday Melee on a map you get to choose, and Wild Card Thursdays. Also we have the Realism Tournament that runs on Saturday nights. This tournament last between 4-5 weeks and puts in a whole new type of game play into DoD:S. Before the events, and really any time in between, you can usually find us chatting it up in Ventrilo. Feel free to come and talk with us. You'll find us playing our favorite games, telling jokes and just having a great time!

The DoD:S Competitive team has been started up, and recently has had its first practice match. This was followed on its heels by an preseason match. Go support our competitive team by watching their matches, and wish them luck.

We know school has started up once again, and it's time to hit the books. Still, when you have a chance for a break, why not get on one of our wonderful servers. When you see a promising pub, give them a warm EdgeGamers welcome. They may become our next recruit!

In addition to the usual path for attaining these items, they can now be purchased at the Mann Co. store in game using steam dollars.

The TF2 Admin Trainers would like to announce the return of the Admin Scenario of the Week. In this forums scenario the Division’s eG’s are presented with a real-world situation, usually torn from the nightmares of a senior admin, and given an opportunity to present their answer and read how their peers would handle the situation. Last week was a first for the Division as we opened up the Admin Roundtable for our G-level admins as well. This traditionally O-level monthly gathering allows Leadership to keep our admins up-to-date with any recent rules changes and to get feedback from our senior admin community. Any rumors that Aneruen stole this idea from the Insurgency (INS) Division are wholly unfounded (great idea guys, thank you). As if that’s not enough, the AT’s are also hard at work on the return of another crowd favorite, the Advanced Admin Class.

Looking forward, TF2 is in the process of adding a couple names to both the Event Coordinator and the Admin Trainers sections. Speaking of new names, there were some recent promotions as well, and they are listed in a news post on the forums. Go see if you are on that list!

There is some serious discussion about various things, including putting together an official competitive team and taking eGO to the likes of CyberEvolution (CEVO) and TeamWarefare League (TWL). Also, to spark fresh interest, we will be changing the Valve Maps server into something else. Options being discussed are: 24 or 32 slot, map rotation or 24/7 single map, toyfort or convoy. Rampant speculation, rumors, lies, and any other shenanigans about what is to come should be posted in Division Discussion forums. Any pictures of lolcats completely unrelated to TF2 should be PM’d to Kevimaster.

BC2 October News

GingaNinja

This past month BC2 hosted the first ever BC2 Squad Rush Tournament. The winners of the tournament, who are also now the owners of a couple new prizes, are The e-Lemon-ators (Toruk Makto1, Slaz, Medisniper, and V1ruz), Nothing Comes to Mind (DrBackJack, forty2skates, brewmagic, and iPwntUrMum), and The Crying Cicada (Kunai, Watersnake, Pepperrabbit, and Stiffmaister). All of the participants have praised the tournament and its creators for providing an awesome time. Whether it was blowing buildings up, pulling headshots on the enemy, or teasing each other with some friendly trash talk, there wasn’t a moment in Ventrilo (Vent) where someone wasn’t laughing. As for our other events, such as Secret Assassin and Wild Card, they are on hold and may make a comeback if enough people show an interest. If you have any ideas for future events go ahead and send noxx_ or Music a pm, or you can post it in the Drop Box. For the time being the only recurring event is the Squad Rush Tournament, which is planned to be held once a month. That means you better keep your eyes peeled for the October tournament if you want to get in on the action!

For the future, we, as a division, hope to have more people recruiting in-game. Server populations have naturally dipped due to school, and work for some, starting back up. To try and help boost server populations some recent changes have been made to the server lineup. The Hardcore (HC) Conquest has been changed to a 24/7 Hardcore Valparaiso Rush. Valparaiso has shown its overwhelming popularity in the BC2 community by being the most played map, bar none. Nelson Bay conquest, Port Valdez conquest, and White Pass Rush have been removed from their respective servers due to low popularity, and Arica Harbor has been added to the Conquest server as a trial run to see how it does with attracting players.

With that, the entire Bad Company division would like to say that BC2 is a great game. Ask us what game you should buy next; the answer will definitely be BC2. The game is just nonstop fun with your fellow eGO members and there’s no better reason to get the game than that!

We'd all like to welcome Endiment Back to COD Leadership. He is a former Advisor for the Personnel Service Center (PSC), and with his return has agreed to take on Admin Training and help out the COD AT Team. We couldn't be happier about working with him again.

There have been some great COD4 server changes. As regulars to the servers may have noticed, we have been able to increase the number of available slots from 28 to 32 players. This has given 4 more people the opportunity to enjoy a romp on a full server. The TDM server has had a change as well. We have turned it into a Locked Event/Fun server. With this we will be able to host more events without effecting a full server.

Look for an eGO Round Table to be coming up in October. More info will be posted on the forums when available. Please visit the site on a regular basis to keep up with news and events for the COD Division.

Yeti was kind enough to answer a few questions about his Division this time around, and we thank him for his cooperation.

There is talk of some MOD Division players organizing teams for the eSports League (ESL) on Insurgency. Sadly there are no leagues currently running competitions for RnL or FaS. There are discussions among the divisions for Inter-divisional competitions, and we hope to release details before the holidays. The Insurgency 1 versus 1 competition is drawing to a close, and the finalists will compete for the gold on October 9th. Once a winner has been decided we will move the 1v1 event into a non-competitive mode until the next season starts.

As always, check the calendar for events, and join us in Ventrilo (Vent) if you want a good chat!

EVE October News

RESPAWN

September was an eventful month for the EdgeGamers Corp. in EVE. First, one of our members organized not one, but two cheap frigate tournaments for our corporation with cash prizes for the winning teams. A cheap frigate tournament is possibly the most equal tournament that you can organize in EVE Online. A frigate is the smallest class of ships in the game, and nobody is allowed to fit any advanced modules to their ship. The great thing about such tournaments is that anybody, even the newest player to the game, has a chance to participate. Virtually everybody that plays the game will have the skills needed to buy and fit a ship for such a tournament. The benefit to older characters, aside from the possible cash prize, is the experience they gain in the Player vs Player (PVP) aspect of EVE Online by working together with a fleet of ships, all coordinating their attacks on an "enemy" fleet with the common goal of being the last fleet standing. There aren't many better ways to gain PVP experience in such a friendly environment.

The EdgeGamers Corp. held a killboard tournament last month. The ultimate prize was a fully Tier 2 (T2) fit battleship of the winner's choice. Battleships are the largest of the non-capital ships in the game, and as such, cost a pretty penny. Factor in the cost of fully fitting a ship with T2 modules, and you're looking at a hefty prize for the winner. All anybody had to do to win was post the most kills to eGO's killboard for the month (http://taberprame.com/egokb/). That's easier said than done. Competition was fierce, and eGO's continued involvement in faction warfare combined with the frequent invaders into our wormhole system meant that the opportunities for PVP were numerous and participation was high. Everybody wanted to get in on as many kills as possible last month to have a chance at winning the ship. As the end of the month neared two front runners emerged, and it became a competition between two men: Milwaukee and Lightningcount. Both had a commanding lead over Dominion in third place. But, at the end of the month, much like Highlander, there can be only one. Milwaukee barely eked out the win with 47 kills and was awarded the new ship. Lightningcount came in a very close second with 46 kills for the month. Our esteemed Community Manager Dominion managed a very respectable 29 kills for the month.

The last piece of news is really two pieces of news combined. Earlier in the month, two of our members, Uncle P and Anthem, came to EVE leadership with a proposal. The two of them had been saving their money and had enough, combined, to purchase their own Player Owned Station (POS) for industrial purposes. This new station would allow them to refine the ores that they mined into the minerals that are required for ship and item production in the game. Additionally, they wanted to include a station module that would allow them to produce (very profitable) Tier 3 modules in the game. Their proposal was that they would pay for the station and all of its modules, and the corporation would set it up in our Wormhole system and receive a piece of their profits. There was only one hitch with their plan: with everything that they wanted to include, the POS wouldn't be able to provide enough power for all of their modules to be online at the same time. Unfortunately, for security purposes, only members of EVE Leadership have the ability to online and offline modules at a station, so, they would have to find a leader online anytime they needed to turn something on or off for their production. Leadership met and decided that there was an easy solution to this problem. Throughout his involvement with the corporation, Uncle P had already proven himself a capable leader and somebody who could be trusted, and was in fact already on leadership's radar as a possible promotion to an Advisor role in eGO. His need for a leadership member at his POS just helped make EVE leadership's decision a lot easier: Uncle P was getting promoted.

Everybody congratulate Uncle P on his promotion to Advisor!
