How many CPU's do games need?

Not sure if this is just a joke, but a computer looks at each core as a separate CPU.

Take a quad core for an example, it's like taking four identical CPU's, downsizing them to a quarter of the size and packing them into a single chip. Therefore, the computer sees a quad core as four separate CPU's.

Basically, this is what a quad-core was back before the technology was out to have multiple cores in a single chip. It would be four CPU's spread out over a motherboard. This was usually seen in servers, hardly ever, or maybe even never in a personal system.

um it isn't a joke.

All dual/quad/hex cores that are currently manufactured are 2/4/6 cores on a single die .

You could attempt to argue that the original Pentium D, and original Core2Quads were 2 dies on a single chip, but the operating system still recognized it as a single CPU.

ovvverrr NIIINE THOUSAND

I dont know how much truth this holds since im not a wiz-kid computer genius like some of you, but for my the 4 or 6 core processors work great. Play TF2 casually on one monitor and watch dexter on the other.
