newbie dx10 seems to be the culprit.

i managed to reduce the choke to minimal level by downgrading my directx to 9.0c version(only when playing DoD:S)

i did this: pressed the My Games tab at the STEAM window; right clicked the DoD:S icon at the installed games menu, and a drag down menu appeared and clicked Properties; a new window appeared and clicked the Set Launch Options icon and entered the following "-dxlevel95".

hope this will help other dx10 vista users with latency problems that occured since dx10 officialy launched.

um - Am I the onyl oen who didnt think any steam games were directx 10 compatible? Infact, i thought gabe newel hated vista and refused to use DX10. I thought it maxed out at dx9 with shader 3.0.

If your getting choke, reduce video settings - oh wait thats what you did when you told directx to run at a lower setting.

Stick with DX 9, DX 10, i m not that familiar with it's differences with 9. For me, to be safe i use 9 instead of 10.

I consider 10 in it's "Beta" Stage since problems are popping up everywhere. So to be safe, use DX 9

whether you like it or not, legit vista users automatically update to dx10, and the process is irreversible. well for now it is

OK, perhaps you mis understood me?

If you use Vista - vista comes with directx 10. I neevr said otherwise.

Howeve,r I am pretty sure that it is impossible to play any source game in directx 10 since the source engin at maxiumum only uses directx 9c with pixel shader 3.0 support. Thus, you are not using directx 10 when you use vista and play source but rather 9c - just like, you can go back and play half-life 1 in vista and still not be using dirextx 10.

perhaps in the future then, ive seen STEAM and microsoft make softeware miracles time and again, well just maybe.

imagine dod:s at dx10, isnt that mind boggling? and very appealing if given the chance.

LOL dream on wayward dream on LOL
