So is it just me, or is anyone else noticing that everything internet-based is becoming less.. free?
I've noticed it for a while now, but with the new TF2 update of having to purchase items to play... well I started doing some personal research.
About 7 years ago, I joined a fun little site called Neopets (don't judge me). To me being a little 11 year old kid, it was the most amazing thing ever. You can create your own fun little cartoon pet, play games, fight virtual battles, etc. All for FREE! So I went onto the site a few weeks back, just to see what was going on with it. Seems nowadays taht the only way you can make your little Neopet look awesome, is by spending about $30 USD for 1000 points at the store, which doesn't get you very much.
Another thing was a virtual game called Second Life. Now, I haven't heard too much about it, except that it's kinda like the Sims... only you pay for everything you pu on your virtual avatar... with real cash. People will pay like 200 bucks just so their character looks awesome.
Heck, even Facebook is incorporating games and apps that require you to buy credits using real money, in order to play games. So watch out people addicted to Farmville!
So where is all this going? Will one day all of us be forced to pay 50 bucks just to get one small virtual item? I mean c'mon, I pay enough money just to have internet every month, so why should I have to pay to play on a virtual critter site?
Thank God eGO doesn't charge us to be members. And hopefully you never will. *suspicious glare*
Useless thread, I know... it just makes me rage. :cursing:
Anyways,
Tell me your thoughts, stories, etc.
~Have a nice day!~
