I suffer from chronic migraines, and we have been going around almost a year trying to solve what is causing them. I recently had a sleep study, which revealed I have only an average of 5 minutes of REM sleep a night, and this is caused by a severe sleep apnea, which essentially means I do not breathe in my sleep. I was then sent to an Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor that found that my adenoids and tonsils may be the cause of my apnea, and I had two options: I can have my tonsils and my adenoids removed, or I could be put on a c-pap machine, which essentially 'breathes' for me when I sleep. Considering I am only 16 years old, I would much rather have the surgery than be stuck with a machine for the rest of my life. They believe that removing my adenoids/tonsils will allow me to breathe better, lower my high blood pressure, give me more than a 2 hour a night average of sleep, and maybe even cure my migraines, as they have been known to relate to sleep and high blood pressure.

So I'm having my surgery early in the morning tomorrow, and I will be home, but apparently I'm not supposed to be doing much computing for a week, so I'm gonna be gone for that time. See yah when I get better..
 
Lame condition to have but it happens to people. Glad ya guys caught it early and can fix it. Good luck on surgery and come back all better and ready to rumble. Just think ya can have longer dreams now after the procedure!

Good luck with the surgery - I hope it solves your migraines. I was really worried for a sec since I read over half of the message and was thinking neurosurgery - but I was happily relieved (cough. although still concerned).

BTW, can anyone tell me, where is adenoids situated? I've flunk my Bio.
 
I'm sorry, I have been home since the day after I posted this [I didn't need to stay in the hospital over night]
but I am still recovering. It's a bit of a b**** right now; my parents said that my throat pain would be the worst, but the thing that's bugging the most is I cannot blow my nose, because there are gels that I have to keep in there for a week, and when that week is up.. I still can't blow my nose. I can't until after a week, which I'm then supposed to dissolve the gels with saline. Also it's been annoying, because I cannot breathe through my nose, and if I don't keep my head at an angle, they bleed like no tomorrow, and wiping up the blood makes them bleed more. I can't wait till the week is up.

I might come online and play one of these days, but due to the fact I have to keep my head tilted and such, I still may not until I have fully recovered, which should be soon. The pain meds help whatever pain is in my throat, and so does pudding. Oddly enough, the ice cream actually hurts my throat :@ and we have to have lots of great, expensive ice cream shops nearby that my parents were willing to go to for me.

Well, at least theres also the jell-o. Haha, a mormon stereotype, is that they looove Jell-o so the families around here that actually care [Unfortunately they also have a distaste for those not in the church, but there are a few families I am good friends with, and in my eye, they are an example of what a christian or a mormon family should be: Friendly, loving, some of the nicest people you will ever want to meet, with good family values that they don't force on other people.] about me have donated lots of homemade Jell-o. Mmm P=

Hehe, I sound like a kid there... 'I had mah surgery just so mah parents would buy the most expensive ice cream!'.

So far, even though it has been a little hard to sleep because of my cotton mouth and the fact I can't breathe through my nose, when I do get to sleep, I have a feeling this surgery will have been worth it. I got 9 hours last night with no disruption, and according to my parents, who had me sleep in the living room for some reason, said I didn't toss, turn or snore. That's more than I've had in at least 5 years..

Haha. I flunked human biology, but here you go: Adenoids (or pharyngeal tonsils, or nasopharyngeal tonsils) are a mass of lymphoid tissue situated at the very back of the nose, in the roof of the nasopharynx, where the nose blends into the mouth.

Oddly enough, I did not need to have my adenoids taken out, when the doctor went in, he found out that apparently they are already gone! Shriveled up with age.. I think that's strange, but w/e. He still removed my tonsils and my reduce turbanints [something in my nose, that apparently were so huge, they explain why I've had 9 serious sinus infections this year. He didn't remove these though, he just 'reduced' them and packed them with gel.]
 
Glad to hear that you OK now. As for the trouble that you're having at the moment, I hope they just a minor set back before you been send back to the front (DoD).
Take rest a lot, you deserve it. BTW, thank for the info on Adenoids.
