So, i read this quote while reading the Gameinformer review for Kirby's Epic Yarn (I like them, I dont care what you guys say) and I couldnt help but skim past this small tidbit below:

"Honestly, the only crowd that I can imagine not enjoying Kirby is jaded gamers who are too cool for something so whimsical. Maybe they didn?t grow up with the equally family-friendly Nintendo games of the ?80s and ?90s, or maybe they?ve just forgotten their roots amidst the constant flow of first-person shooters and gory action games."

It got me thinking, are we gamers truly losing our touch of the classics, only being afixated to modern day gaming with gore, bullets, and loads of guns? I certainly hope not, but if you think about it, most of the recent releases/soon-to-be-released are shooters, online gaming, Hack n Slash, or all three. Just wanted to see eGO's input on this.

I anticipate many releases that aren't shooters. Just not all at once.

I think it's more a change of the times man, now that we have the technology to make realistic violence, enough to make it realistic even, we focus more on that. Nothing wrong with looking back on what lead up to what we have now, but it's not to say all gamers are spurging it. Let's also not forget alot of kids are growing up on these types of games anyways and probably don't care much for past games. I grew up with Crash Bandicoot and MGS myself. Change is good man, so no biggie.

I do sort of agree with you on this. The most recent releases do seem to be all about the gore, shooting, and who can pwn who. I rarely see anyone playing a classic game anymore, or a game that doesn't involve blood and gore.

I make sure to still embrace the old days, with games like Super Mario Bros. 3, Kirby's Avalanche, and Gyromite.

As a side note...
eGO should get a classic gaming division. xD

Competitive gaming is fun. But nothing is better than turning on that NES or N64and playing some Super Mario Bros. and Legend of Zelda.

I never was a Kirby fan though.

Truly it is just nostalgia speaking.

Gaming technology & innovation is at its best right now, no matter if you're reading this at 9:09 PM CST on October 16th 2010 or in 2050.

Games over time have gotten better, fact.

There are exceptions though, the most horrible game ever (CoD:MW2) was released just last year. I'd play ANY old game rather than that rip off piece of crap sorry excuse for 6 hour campaign ever again.

The thing about classic games was that they brought friends together. You'd be sitting on the same couch with your friends, playing Mario or Kirby, and you'd have a good time. Today, it seems through Xbox Live and what not, we are losing the connection we had when playing classic games with our friends. Instead of interacting face to face, all we hear is our friend's voice over the mic.

And that is why classic games hold a place in my heart.
