whenever i start to load TF2 or HL2 episode one my comp restarts... any ideas how to fix this?

What you have is a symptom, not a problem. Once we figure out what the problem is then we can determine the solution.
Computer specs, and last time updated drivers for video card? Operating system version?
Can you be more specific about where you are in the process when its restarts. Ass soon as you double click to open the game it restarts, or perhaps you get through the loading screen and just as it is about to join a game it goes. Be detailed.

well i see the "preparing to play team fortress" then it fades out and then my comp restarts...i just updated my drivers

This is similar to what happened to me. I just made sure everything was updated ane then it worked.

I see from your responce that your operating system and computer specs are invisible. Not my first choice - kind of cool, but it may be hard to upgrade later on.
I dont just ask for this stuff because it floats my boat. I ask for info I need to move forward.
Have you tried loggin out of steam, and then loggin back in. Which for heck's sake is different than clicking exit and then loggin back in.

Well, I was thinking that I would like to know your operating system and computer specs. Perhaps you should think about filling out the tech help form.

how can i find out my specs?

Simple specs can be found quickly by right clicking my computer and going to proporties. That will say your RAM and processor. Your hard drive size can be found by going to my computer right clicking your hard drive and going to properties. Your video card can be found out by right clicking your desktop and going to properties and then clicking the settings tab.
For detailed specs you can go to start > run and type in dxdiag

i have 1 gb RAM, and 356 GB hard drive, my graphics card is a ATI vision tek radion 2600 PRO. anything else you need?

I find it odd that you dont know your specs or how ot find them an dyet have a 2600.

ok i have windows XP home preimium and a Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.93GHz

Well Windows XP doesn thave a "home premium" edition, onyl Vista does. XP has a "home edition" - but XP Home and Vista home premium are two very different operating systems.
You never said weather my suggestion helped or not.
And you ddint answer my quesiton about getting th latest drivers without knowing the card you have because - getitng new drivers is important.
Also, I think steampowered.com has an article in their forums specifically for the purpose of helping with this issue - however, it may be for vista only you shoudl check it out.
